Default Antique Roadshow rerun 1949 Mantle checks

I seen this a day or two ago and was curious if these checks ever hit the market and what price was achieved.

They did a follow up interview with her right after the appraisal. At that time she said she would just keep the check as it came from her grandfather.
Here is a link to the follow up interview.

Is it me, or was the estimate way too high?

Larry,

It's television, baby!! These shows have alot of BS built into them in order to build ratings. Take it with a grain of salt...

I would like to hear from others on what they believe a true realized value would be in a legitimate auction.

If she wanted to sell them, it may have been a tactical error to admit she had 5 of the checks. The appraiser may have been right on one check selling in the $30-50k range, there are some very competitive Mantle collectors out there who would love to have the only one. Knowing that there are 4 others out there would probably drive the price down a bit. I could still see each check bringing $20k though.

As a Koufax collector, I would pay that for one of his first payroll checks. I have one of Jackie Robinson's last payroll checks, and while it was endorsed by Rachel, it is still pretty cool.
