Default User Titles- yes or no?

So here is the question. Should we have user titles that are based on your # of posts on the board, which would change as you post more?

Default no worries

We will let the poll go a few days. As I said before if there was a large percentage that didn't want to do it then we won't. It wasn't even going to have to be 50% in order to not do it.....SO it looks like the board is speaking.....I thought it would be fun but I have been wrong before....No big deal....after the poll I will go look at the options and, if it continues the way it is, will just do away with that feature. I am sure the other moderators (and I) will still have a title because we need one but that's about it..Thanks to all who have voted so far.

I voted "no" because when you think about it, what difference does it make how often you post? And I see the "nos" are leading roughly 2:1.

I'll vote yes if the rankings are reversed, so that you start out as an expert and get progressively demoted the more you post.

I vote "yes," just out of it being kind of fun. But, I concur, if people feel this strongly, no titles. My vote is still yes though. And I too love the smileys! I for one am trying to post more on the new forum and the titles will make it fun.

Net54 should not have any type of seniority system that rewards members for posting. I think everyone should be viewed as an equal participant without being labeled regardless of post activity.

The one beifit would be that if someone was a senior member and you were doing a deal with them you would have a point of reference, ie it becomes a reference.

I am not sure it is needed but that would be one benifit.

Good point but the post count by each members name will also aid in knowing if someone is a regular. At any rate I thought it would be fun but I guess I am in the minority....and I stayed true to my statement before and didn't, and won't, vote...

Well, I voted yes and really am surprised that it's almost 2-1 in favor of no titles. Either way is fine, but lots of boards that I participate have them and it's never been a problem.

55 members have voted now, so it shows the majority of members are lurkers and not posters. Having the “user titles system” is a poor representation to knowing whose regular or not.

I think it could be fun. If it gets abused, it could always be done away with. Never know if you don't try ... only live once.

I voted yes...I really don't get how people are anticipating all these problems with it. Anyone that would have a problem with it would just be revealing themselves as someone who needs to get out a little more.

Adding a little fun to things should take priority over idiot-proofing them.

I voted yes for something I see as pretty insignificant to the day to day contributions of the board, but from time to time could add a little fun. What's wrong with that?

There is an option within a poll to have all of the voters be known but I chose to have it be private. If I "can" see how folks vote I don't know how to do it nor do I want to know. I really wish my seeing wouldn't affect a vote but I guess it could. So the short answer is "no"....I won't see votes.

This may already have been addressed with the new registration requirements, but on the old board BST, I often found myself wishing that sellers had some type of identifying "title" so as to give me an idea of their status with the rest of the board. I have pretty much figured out who the trustworthy vets are,but thats mainly because they post alot. Some dont.

Did that make any kind of sense?

as i mentioned on the other board,my experience with this was not good on another board where folks were thought of --by some-- as not good colleagues/friends if
they didn't have a certain number of posts on a regular basis.
competition can deteriorate into many odd,and not so helpful ,things methinks.

i'm ag'in it.

best,

barry

Quantity of posts does not represent quality. I can think of a few past members that prove that. I vote no.

The poll is closed. It was going to have to be the opposite way it is in order to do the titles as I didn't/don't want to do what a large portion of the board doesn't want. I thought it would be fun, as well as about 30% of the other respondents but that wasn't anywhere close enough (imo) to do them.....thanks to everyone who voted....

I vote no.

I like Matt's idea. And I like a post count. A down side with titles would be that some folks would post just to improve their title.

I've seen places where folks voted about how good a post or poster was. I'm not necessarily very keen on that, here, either.

So no to titles, but do count the post numbers, I think.
