Default Babe Ruth Advice Needed with Show and Tell

Posted By: James Feagin

Hello everyone,

For the past year I've been trying to find a non-Goudey Ruth in the $1500 range and that isn't oversized (i.e premium). I haven't found one that is too interesting yet and really can't stomach strip cards (aside from W517) Can y'all post your favorite non-mainstream Ruth and perhaps one that can be attained in the $1500-2000 range? Foreign issues, oddities, all are welcomed. Please help!

James

This is my favorite Ruth that isn't a Goudey or one of the m101 rookie issues. It gives you everything you'd want out of the Babe... a nice mugshot... a nice slender head to toe shot (he was still pretty young)... and him on the field.

I probably overpaid for it, but the front has the look of a 4-5 (gunk on the back keeps it at a 2.) I got it in the range you're looking at.... and it sure beats the hell out of the cartoon strip cards.

Edited for spelling.

Wow, I've been in the hobby awhile and that E121 Ruth looks great. Have never seen that one before. Exhibits are an intriguing possibility. Does anyone have any favorite Exhibit poses?

i've always preferred his 1920's caramel cards over the goudeys...scarcer and earlier cards. some people might be turned off by the b/w cards. their prices have gone up considerably though.

I like those Sanellas, and you can get a PSA 8 or so for only $300ish... which is pretty cheap to me for a near 75 year old Ruth. I've always wondered how those Youth Companion stamps were distributed, they sure are interesting.

Do any of the current grading companies grade Fro-Joy Ruth's? Additionally, what year is that pretty Ruth on the right-side of Boxingcardman's scan? Are there color variations associated with it.

BVG graded Fro Joy's the last time I checked a few months ago. Also, if your asking about the Ruth holding the bat, that's a 1926-29 Exhibits. I do believe there is a color variation.
