What percentage of STAT/Morales items are actually authentic?

Per my post on the other link (regarding naive/fringe consignors) here's a survey about Coach's Corner and their percentage of authentic autographs.

Please be honest in your responses, as we all know they'll get bashed relentlessly. If you believe it is in the 51 - 100% range, please write it into your post. I neglected to make that an option up above.

I put 21 - 30 percent. That may be kinda high considering the sheer number of stuff that they authenticate for CC, but hey even if they guess they should be able to get 25 percent I would think. Also, I imagine that there are lots of people that come across Dad's or Grandpa's collection and check out a paper like the SCD and see several pages of ads by CC (not anymore, but in the past) and call them up to sell the collection. This would put at least some authentic stuff in the auction. Also, I've seen a few CC auctions were they had several Ruth and Gehrig cuts and most went for 100 - 200 dollars and a couple went for more like 800 - 1100 dollars. I'd have to believe that at least some knowledgeable collectors were in on driving the price of those up.
Bottom line is, be your own authenticator first. If you like it and believe it to be good, then it doesn't matter who else authenticated it. You can always send it in to someone else latter for a second opinion...just don't mention Stat or Morales.

The only things from STAT that are authentic have been Bob Fellers autographs and George Bush autographs.

The reason they got the Bush autographs right was because they were the "authenticators" on site during the signing.

And, there is such a glut of authentic Fellers that nobody's ever bothered to forge one.

I'd wager they even have their share of forged Feller autographs.

I've seen such a large number of bad autographs of otherwise common boxers in their auctions that it boggles the mind.

Of course there's also a fair number of good Leon Spinks autographs, but with a bad Muhammad Ali autograph placed conveniently right next to it, LOL!!!

I put 0 to 2 percent because I really believe that anyone who would send them an autograph already knows it's fake. There is absolutely no reason to send them one otherwise.

(I was kinda surprised to see one fall in the 41 - 50% range!)

I vote for 50% because I bought two items back in my younger days, one was good, the other bad.....Just kidding on the percent-I would say closer to 20 percent due to the fact as others stated some people just send in a family collection without knowing better. In a time of closing an estate, many people do want to be bothered and use an auction out of convenience-hence there massive advert. in the past.
