Default 1955 Bowman Atwell .. is that a little boy?

Can anyone identify if the shortstop has a little boy with him in the background of 1955 Bowman Toby Atwell card #164? Driving me nuts trying to see what the white blob figure is......

I am not sure what it is either. I got mine out and looked at it with a loupe and it could be a kid standing there.

Thanks for looking Ben. It looked to me like the player was bent over with his hand on the kids back or something. Just a curiosity.
thanks

Intriguing question - but we may as well wonder about all the little blobs in the bleachers, as well. It looks more to me like a scratch of some kind on the photo negative, which was just a background onto which the Atwell image was superimposed. What would a kid be doing on the field during a game at that time?

It could have been a pregame ceremony or promotion where they allowed little kids on the field with the players, I have seen it before.

It's Steve Bartman's grandfather as a boy, trying to interrupt a play.

Agreed. When I was growing up in the 60's, the Twins had a Father and Son (later daughters too) game with the players and their kids in uniform, highlights of which even made the team yearbook. Surely other teams had similar events.

Haha. Maybe. Not a coincidence they're both Pirates cards.
