(still on wife-imposed 'no more purchases' probation)

my official story is I didn't make a recent pick up.

hypothetically speaking though....
if I were to have just received these cards in the mail -
I would hypothetically be very thankful to Greg E on b/s/t

hypothetically of course ...

Barry -- Not only was it signed by all of those players but the postcard was sent from Sam Crawford to his nephew to boot.

Rhett--I know nothing about autographs but why is the "S" in Sam Crawford's autograph at left different than the "S" in Uncle Sam?

Jay, I wondered that at first too, but after I thought about it, when I send a card or letter to my friends and family I don't always sign it at the bottom but more or less write normally so they know who sent it.

Jay, Whomever wrote the side note likely addressed it as well (compare the "D's"). I'd guess Wahoo Sam had a clubhouse boy mail it out. Too big a Star to be running to the PO

Rhett...

Steve mentioned RPPC.... is it a Real Photo Postcard?

Or a printed one?

If it is an RPPC then double my prior "wow".

WOW Rhys. Congrats. About a year ago I was talking to a lady at an estate sale about baseball memorabilia and she told me she picked up a postcard that was mailed by Sam to one of his relatives back in Wahoo. She picked it up in an ordinary lot of postcards so the previous owner had no clue...Unfortunately she didn't want to sell it.

That Germany Schaefer signature on that Tigers PC is spectacular.

He's my wife's favorite oldtime ball player -- seeing how ornate he signed, I may have to hunt down a Schaefer sig to add to her collection for her Christmas present this year...

I'd have that Tigers postcard looked at by one of the noted experts to be honest with you.

Jimmy, Richard (you there to comment?) or Mike.

first of all, Rhys, amazing card.

Here are two new items. The first is a 1940 PCL fold-out schedule with a Lefty O'Doul bio on the back. The second is a ca. 1900-1905 Max Stein PC of a boxer (I dated it based on the dates of the fighter's career). The twist is that it is a real photo glued to a heavy stock card. Apparently, before Stein started publishing its own line of cards it made up cards to order. I've not seen a baseball card like this; anyone else?

nice pickups, hypothetically speaking! That DiMaggio looks nicer than a 40(3), what am I not seeing?

Rhys, echoing the others - gorgeous PC

Looks like a key card Adam, spanning the gap between the termination of his MLB career and his general acceptance as an important historical contributor.

not sure why the dimaggio was graded just a 40.

I can't see any creasing. Just a tiny bit of color loss at the tip of a couple of corners (the top two)... other than that it is pretty nice looking card.

Looks better than a 40 to me.

I have no clue whether John's coin bank is authentic or not, but I purchased a reproduction of this bank at an Akron department store (a defunct chain somewhat like a third rate KMart) in LA area in the mid 1970's. I still have it, and it does not have any 'reproduction' identification on the item. To wrap things up in a little tiny rubber band ball, there are reproductions out there without any indication that they are reproductions.

My wife and I were vacationing in Louisiana and stopped at the Kenner card show. Nice people and a couple of great vintage dealers.

I hope the size of the postcard scans aren't too large.

With respect to "Home Town Battery", my reproduction also doesn't have any identification. I'm not sure, but I thought the original bank was always called "Dark Town Battery"

Yes Max,i did some research afterwards and realized its a reproduction of the original one with the name changed and the players changed from black to white. I didnt see any repo markings like the examples on ebay and a few other sites. I read a description from an antique toy website and their wording was confusing which led me to believe that the one i and you have were made after the one with the black players, but it was also reproduced at a later date. That mightve actually happened since neither of ours has the reproduction wording at the bottom, but i cant be sure of that.

Its a cool piece either way and my dad bought it for display purposes because it was cheap, not for its potential resale value

Is it an October pick up when you move furniture, and find something underneath? If so, then this is a recent pick-up. Here's some gents waiting for Casey to bat, apparently.

I was the underbidder on both, I believe.
