Default 414 T-Cards Lot goes for $24k at Maitland Auction

Two weeks ago I stumbled upon an auction house that was offering a collection of 414 T-cards in Maitland, FL : 85 T205s, 61 T207's, 6 T209's and the rest T206's.

The 206's had 40 Hall-of-Famers incl. four Cobbs (2 red ports, 1 green, and 1 Bat On), 1 Matty black Cap, 2 Chance ports, a Johnson port and tons more, as well as, 16 Southern Leaugers, and some scarce cards. No rare backs.

The 207's all had pin holes but did include a Chance.

The 205's had a McGraw, a Matty, Tinker, Evers, Chance, Collins mouth open, and Collins regular, Baker, Bender and Brown and more.

I looked at them last weekend and the cards varied from VG to Ex. It was an amazing collection...A buddy of mine and I were willing to go to 15k on them before 6.5% tax and 13% buyer's premium.

The lot ended up going for $19500 before tax and premium. I went home a bit surprised they went for just a few thousand under retail value, in my opinion. Or perhaps I went into it a bit naive.

Anybody on this board win that lot????

I think it was a very good deal for the seller. All of them had the most common backs too.

The Red Cobb on the left was a stunner.

There was one polar bear, a few tolstoi, and the rest piedmont and SC.

Most/many of the backs had some residue on them. If the Cobbs would grade highly then the deal could have been very good for the buyer. I don't think they would have though.....and maybe I was incorrect on that. Not a bad deal for the buyer but to me a better deal for the seller. Just my opinion.....

Leon,

I really think the red Cobb had a shot at a five. But then again I didn't have a loop when I looked at it.
