Default Goldin auctions Ended...Overestimations?

So I was perusing the results of the latest Goldin auctions...and I was surprised to see many final bids not meeting or beating the AH estimates.

I thought it was customary for AH's to underestimate the result so they could "brag" later on that their results beat expectations?

Default M101-2 Speaker

I placed my winning bid at 11pm last night and then fell asleep expecting to wake up as heavily overbid. Didn't happen. I won this signed M101-2 Speaker at a very reasonable price!

Speaker M101-2

Ah - you learn something new every day. I always wondered why the auction house estimates always appeared low. Never occurred to me that they did that on purpose.

I won the Gehrig Cracker Jack pin for less than I anticipated. Went to bed assuming I'd lose also. People on eBay BIN looking for $1000 or more and I got for about $350. Seems to me there might be auction overload/fatigue going on. Not that I'm complaining.

Out of curiosity did this supplement come from the Clarence Steen collection? I'm trying to keep track of them. I know they attempted to sell the Greenberg signed supplement, but it didn't get a bid.

Asking price and selling price are two different animals. The price you paid is about what I'd expect at auction. I really like the pin. Sold mine a couple years ago

Sold my Munson bi-centennial bat in the auction and it beat the $5000 estimate. It ended up selling for $8500+ juice. Very happy with Goldin auctions.

Be happy for whomever you want to but please put your full name next to your post per the rule at the top every page, in bold letters (said for the millionth time). thanks

I'm not a Mantle collector, but I'd been interested if someone who is could weigh in on what they are seeing with the 52s at auction. It is just a steady climb, or have things begin to stall a bit?

MileHigh has several 52's in their auction, I am thrilled tho to see a PSA2(mk) fetch almost 21k. Maybe just maybe were gonna see another surge in the 311??? The buyers group are not happy, they want more & more and control the market.
The only one I track of course is the 311 (on the low end). I seen several 1's falling back down from the 8-9k range back down to the 5-6k area. As for 2's, I seen some in the 13, some as high as 20k, but generally 15k for a 2. Beyond that...is beyond my knowledge.
MH, has a gorgous SGC 5.5 @37k I take all day over the PSA 6 @51K, but a dang nice looking 7 @130K...I much rather take the SGC and save some dough.
OH, LOOK AT the COMPLETE 52 SET---yes it has a PSA7 Mantle..GORGOUS!!!

From what I've seen in auctions and heard of in reports of private sales from reputable sources, big premiums are being paid for centered 52 Mantles. Off center and tilted 4s-6s appear a little flat to me. Look at heritage right now. Well, but not dead centered sgc 4 at 38k plus bp. Sgc 5 not well centered at 26k.

An 8 hasn't hit in quite a while and I haven't seen a dead centered 6 or 7 either. The next time one does I think you will see VCP records shattered. Private sales are already breaking those records.

Pretty excited to see the 1932 Babe Ruth Called Shot Ticket Stub PSA 2 go for $3,900... I picked up a raw one two months ago for $2800, paid the $150 and got it graded a PSA 3.

I think there is still a lot of room for this iconic stub to move higher... cant think of a better baseball stub to own.

From recent and personal experiences the higher the dollar value the less the particular numbered holder matters, especially on '52 Mantles. Many of them go outside the regular hobby so the plastic and flip are less important. Regular people want the best looking card not the highest number and shiniest plastic. But to each their own.

I've always wanted to be a regular people, but alas, I'm not well-centered.

I am surprised, with that stain on the back of the PSA graded copy, it graded as high as it did?

The PSA may have slightly sharper corners than the SGC but the SGC card beats it all day long when it comes to centering, imo.

The red mark on the back of the SGC card, by the number 311, is hard to discern if it's a print mark or it was placed there by an actual red marker/pencil?

I haven't seen that one before, so I am guessing it is the latter?

Regardless, I still think the SGC graded copy is the nicer card, and so far, the better deal, but of course it's a lower graded copy, so I must be out in left field?
