When it comes to grading, whose standards do you prefer over all others? I was just wanting to see who everyone had had the best experience with. Whose standards seem to be the most accurate according to what you would expect once you receive your card? Who among the "reputable" graders would you say were the worst? Just curious... - Dustin

SGC for pre-war, PSA for post-war, avoid all others.

SGC if you are buying someone else's card (since they hammer the grades and you can therefor pick up a 3 for the price of the graded 2 etc.)

PSA if you are selling it.

1) SGC (trust most w/authentication and finding alterations)
2) BVG (trust most that holder hasn't been tampered with)
3) PSA (too many reports of inconsistency, tampered holders, grading altered cards i.e. wagner, etc)

Most of the cards I have (graded) are in PSA slabs.

I do like SGC and will not shy away from those or PSA.

I have a couple Beckett but don't like 'em much.

Busted a couple dozen cards out of there plastic sarcophagi last night. Aside from a few gashes on my palm and wrist from some sloppy screwdriver work (better I damage myself than the cards), it was very liberating. Sort of the dude card collector equivalent of burning a bra.

But in a concession to the realities of selling I'm keeping the higher value cards in their holders. Definitely SGC.

On T206 I like SGC but am about ready to give Beckett BVG a try,
On everything in between 1939 and now I like PSA, great registry,
On current cards I only do BGS

I've had too many inconsistently graded PSA slabbed T206 cards.

I like PRO the best because no matter what you send them, it will come back Near Mint.

I just took advantage of SGC's May grading special by dropping off a bunch of BB HOF Pre-War cards at their office this morning. As usual, Michael Goldberg was very helpful in finding the most economical way for my cards to get done and I also got a chance to briefly say hello to Bob Luce, one of the very best graders in the business. I will be bringing some more cards up there next week as soon as they arrive in the mail.

My favorite company is still PSA. I like SGC holders appearance, but they are murder on paper loss. I have gotten PSA 4 grades on cards with a tiny amount of paper loss if the rest of the card is exceptional, but SGC will usually not give anything above a 1.5 for even the smallest paper loss in my experience.
