Default Another Newbie.....

Hello all. I've been floating in and out of the hobby for the past 25+ years. After a several year hiatus I'm back -- and with a new interest in pre-war. After many years of topping off sets started in my youth (prime time for me was 69-75) I undertook the building of a 1961 set from scratch. That was my version of "vintage".

A couple of months ago I started to get the itch again. My first endeavor was upgrading commons in my '61 set and sending in a bunch to get graded at PSA along with some opportunistic buys in a weak attempt at '33 Goudey in PSA 4. While kicking around on the internet I wound up at Old Cardboard. From there I found Scot Reader's, excellent, "Inside T206" and Net54. And I am hooked.

I am energized by how much there is to learn and have really enjoyed the process. In particular this board is a fantastic resource. The positive tone, welcoming attitude towards rookies and overall collegial atmosphere is wonderful. I look forward to being part of it.

As of this moment my MN is 20. But there's going to be increases in the coming week or two as I've completed 4 transactions on this board, await some lots from the recent SPC and Sterling auctions as well as some ebay wins. Of the 20 I have in hand my favorite is the Tris Speaker -- Polar Bear back in PSA 4.

I'll be travelling to the National this year and look forward to the opportunity to meet some of you.

Cheers,

John

Welcome to the forum, John. I'm Bill. Very nice to meet you!

When you get a chance, I'd love to see a picture of that Speaker. That's one of my favorite cards in the set, too.

Are the Red Sox your favorite team?

Thank you all for the welcome.

Bosox Blair I do collect some Sox items. In my office I have the requisite brick from Fenway Park. I also have an architects drawing of the left field grandstands as they were rebuilt following a fire in 1926. I've been a Sox season ticket holder for 28 years and several years ago when they replaced the seats in my section I was fortunate to buy the two I'd sat in all those years (Section 26 row 9 seats 9&10).

Bill, I'm travelling the early part of the week, but will scan and post the Speaker when I return.
