Default Hunt Auction Pick-Ups

Posted By: Phil Garry

I just got back from the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC today and enjoyed my MLB FanFest experience as well as attending the live Hunt Auction taking place there. Did anyone make any nice pick-ups from Hunt either yesterday or today?

I was the winning bidder on one item, a c1914-1917 Negro Baseball Team Postcard (Lot #815). I have posted a scan of the front of the postcard below. Can anyone help with identifying all of the individuals pictured?

Top row, left to right: Bill Gatewood, Jesse Barbour, Leroy Grant, Pop Lloyd, Jude Gans.
Bottom row, left to right: Billy Francis, Dick Whitworth, Pete Hill, Rube Foster, Bruce Petway, Pete Booker, don't know.

E-mail me privately about this postcard ASAP, Phil. Or call me. I have some information for you that you'll want to know before you send payment.

My pick ups (no cards):
Lot13 Jeter game jersey
Lot 47 Mantle World Series ticket display (grossly overpaid) My son wanted it
Lot 61 1926 Yankees team photo
Lot 117 White Sox team photo
Lot 578 Lot of 10 Maris/Mantle signed photos
Lot 730 200 signed Whitey Ford 8x10's

It was a great auction. Big crowd, lots of media. The Munson family was there and obviously touched by the outpouring of fans love for Munson. No bargains to speak of but my son loved Fan Fest.

Wow John - quite a haul. What does one do with 200 signed Whitey Ford 8x10's?

I thought that was the one good deal, if there was one. The jersey was for my 7 yr old. He worships Jeter and his walls are covered with all things Jeter. The Corey Lydle arm band on the jersey was cool.

"What does one do with 200 Ford photos?"
I don't know. I only wanted a few of that shot but they put all 200 in one group. It was an image I'd never seen. A smiling Whitey and Mick in uniform sitting on the dugout steps. The looks on their faces look like they are up to something, probally were
