Default February Pick-Ups

Thought that I would start off the new month with this beauty (Manny's Baseball Land) just back from Beckett and graded an "8", a much less common 1961 Santo Rookie as compared to his Topps card.............

Picked this up via eBay auction tonight (thankyou, Gavelsnipe!). Always admired this card, and thought the pose on it was ironically poignant for Roberto's final Topps card.

Wow, very nice, Patrick! I'd say it has a great shot -- looks mint. It's interesting to note how both of our cards have the same rough, right edge. Every collection should have one of these cards....

Got the Brooklyn Dodgers Schedule card in today! The other two I actually received last month, but didn't get the chance to scan them in until tonight.

Hey Rob, forgive my ignorance, but who is the Rothman collection from?

Rawn

I do like those cards for their simplicity.

I was curious myself, but I found this snippet online:

"Mr. Steven Rothman accumulated the best of what cards were available to him during a 20+ year span, including all the rare Bowman variation cards from 1949-1955, many of which are seldom seen, making this a tremendous opportunity for seasoned collectors. We are also proud to have had the best 10,000 cards from this collection professionally certified by Sportscard Guaranty Corp. (SGC). Their expertise, care and accuracy are unequaled in the field of card grading and their holders are the most attractive of any of the grading services. Each card certified from this collection carries the Pedigree moniker "Rothman Collection" on the SGC label, ensuring that collectors will be receiving the one and only, highly prized example that Mr. Rothman searched long and hard for years to find for his special collection."

Just wanted to point out that I didn't nor would I pay any kind of premium for Rothman labeled cards, I actually got these for a little less than expected...hehe

EDITED TO ADD: I miss our Old Cardboard hold 'em games

Default Finally!

Been looking for this card for 2-4 years at a reasonable $ in any condition....and my patience finally paid off...For my EXMT or better '57 set with the CLs, Contest Cards, and this one allowable in low grade as I would rather spend big $ on the star cards...

Default LuckY Penny Card

Now you can look for the actual send away, the penny pendant and chain. I found one on ebay a few years back...and so far it has worked, I have not gone broke yet

Just some pick-ups for my team sets. A bunch from the Rothman Collection, too:

Thanks for looking!

That Rothman guy did have some nice cards, but those don't look like Bowmans to me. I picked up one of his Bowman cards earlier this year.

Yeah I sold off all of my cards back in the summer and I even had to let my '52 Topps Mantle go back in the fall due to some unexpected medical expenses. Everything's cool now, but I'm still trying to build my funds back up. At least I can always drop by and check out the pickup threads to get my card fix! I do miss hanging out here on a daily basis though...

Well, you can always buy some of those cards back at another time, but health is most important. Good to hear you're doing well!

Here's a card that arrived on Friday. These Leaf cards are nice when the stars are aligned and everything comes together. Not sure why this is only a "6", as there's not a wrinkle to be found.

After starting it 13 years ago, I'm finally done with the '55 set. Just waiting for a few more cards to arrive and then I can get going on the '58 set.

Don't think so. This came from Steve Hart @ Baseball Card Exchange.

The Leaf Of Stan the man is really nice! I think psa grades on a sliding scale. I purchased a couple that are graded much lower than your six and I am unable to figure out what they were grading when they looked at the card ? Sharpe corners , perfect focus , well centered , no creases, no stains. Oh wait that was the week they graded with there eyes closed and did it by feel! Nice cards everyone , Brett

I don't buy much modern stuff anymore, but occasionally go back every once in a while to fill in a few holes in my collection. Picked up these 3 today.

Default Not

Not the most visible appealing cards but I've finally knocked out some annoying but somewhat expensive '57 BB CLs, CC's, and the Lucky Penny. I decided to just go low grade as I would rather not spent a couple hundo on a silly checklist vs. a major star. Anyway, I big accomplishment for me, the July 19th and Lucky Penny the toughest and most recent buys...

Default Topps 1957

Patrick---those are tough...and great.. cards no matter what the condition. Now all you need to do is get both the Blony and Bazooka variations of the checklist cards ...and the actual Lucky penny charm

Default Wow

Wow, Rob. That Elliott is crispy---especially considering it is the #1 card in the set. Also, is that Baily in the Giants Topps set an SP? Just wondering if my memory serves correctly. I think the Topps Giant Set is underrated considering their eye appeal/superb photography
