Default Vernona Jarbeau

My lone acquisition at the the SoCal show last Saturday - from Jay Miller.

Vernona Jarbeau has a tenuous connection to 19th century baseball. Whoever guesses correctly first wins a Joe Charboneau rookie card (PSA 2.5).

The first thought that came to my head was that she inspired the book "The Natural".

Bruce, I remember reading a story of where the White Sox's new mascot (a small African American) abruptly quit the team while on a cross country tour to join with Jarbeau's theatre group (much to Anson's chagrin) and when things didn't work out for the mascot with the acting gig he was turned away by Anson as a deserter.

Not sure if that is the right connection and I may have some of the details wrong... that being said keep the Charboneau I only collect PSA 3+ 1980's rookie cards!

However he did join Spalding for his world tour!

Default Rhett Wins

We have a winner! Anson did label mascot Clarence Duval a deserter (and a lot of other names) when he returned but did finally take him back, and Duval completed the tour, mostly due to the influence of Spalding and the other players.

Rhett, I could offer you a Kent Hrbek in a PSA 4 . . .
