Default Trivia 1946 to 2007 in three players

Player A made his debut in 1946, Player B retired in 2007, and Player C was teammates with both of them. No looking it up, who are they?

Is A Yogi Berri and C Ed Kranepool? I'm trying to think who B could be without looking it up (which I swear I haven't!).

Default Jesse Orosco?

Was Orosco playing with Kranepool or did he play until 2007?

For now, I am being a jerk and will only acknowledge all three correct answers, as narrowing it down one by one makes it too easy. If nobody has it by morning, well, we'll see.

I thought of Orosco, whose rookie year with the 1979 Mets was Kranepool's last year with the same team, but I just cheated and looked it up, and he only played until 2003.

Default 1941 to 2008

You can go from 1942 to 2008 with Spahn, Niekro and Glavine

I just figured out that it was Berra, McGraw, Franco, but gregmorris818 beat me to it. But I cheated, so I can't complain.

Actually, Early Wynn and Tommy John get you from 1939 to 1989, so who was a long-playing rookie on those late 80s Yankees teams? Al Leiter through 2005 so that's a tie, I think, with Spahn Niekro Glavine.

Actually, with Jamie Moyer you can get from 1951 to 2012 (Willie Mays-Gary Matthews-Jamie Moyer). Not as long as Spahn-Niekro-Glavine (1942-2008) or Wynn-John-Leiter (1939-2005), but still pretty good, tied with Berra-McGraw-Franco.

If you count Satchel's time in the Negro leagues, Satchel Paige-Minnie Minoso-Harold Baines will take you from 1926-2001.

Some other ones I can think of (if expanding to 4 or 5)...

Amos Strunk(1908)...Al Simmons...Elmer Valo...Jim Kaat(1983)

Jack Quinn(1909)...Paul Richards...Billy Pierce...Minnie Minoso...Harold Baines (2001)

Hard to beat this one...

Nick Altrock(1898)...Ossie Bleuge...Early Wynn...Tommy John...Al Leiter(2005)

Default one up?

Piggybacking off Rhett's post, wouldn't Bluege-Wynn-John from 22-89 be a new 3 man high mark, or would it not count since Wynn's Sen's debut occurred after Bluege retired from the same '39 team?

Minoso just made a guest appearance at an extremely advanced age, he retired in 1964.

Easy mistake to make as his RC is 1960, Ted's last year. One of the few players in that era to have a card before his ML debut, I would think? But his first game was 1961.

Okay, i get it, now lets change the question.

All three players must have been right handed or all three could be left handed. All three must have played the same position (at least part of the time) for the same team (so they were possibly platooned during their overlap (don't you just love righty-righty platoons)). Finally all three players must have had 34 inch waists and preferred chewing tobacco to cigarettes.

I admit, I was doing it off of the top of my head and Yaz's 1960 rookie card entered into my thinking.

Name these two teams.

1. This team had 4 pitchers who already had won 200 games, plus another pitcher who became a HOFer and another pitcher who was their best starter.

2. This team had 5 pitchers who had won or would go on to win 200 games.

Not the one I had in mind but good. Mine requires another HOF pitcher and another pitcher who was their best starter.

Excerpts from the attached article . . .

Eddie Murray's the eighth man. When he broke in, Brooks Robinson was still playing. And when Robinson broke in, Bob Feller was still playing. And when Feller broke in, Rogers Hornsby was still playing. And when Hornsby broke in, Honus Wagner was still playing. And when Wagner broke in, Cap Anson was still playing. And when Anson broke in, Dickey Pearce was still playing. And when Pearce broke in, Doc Adams was still playing. Adams played for the Knickerbocker club in the first organized game of baseball in 1846, number one of the eight men whose careers cover the 152 seasons since.

B.J. Upton played with Fred McGriff who played with Phil Niekro who played with Warren Spahn who played with Ernie Lombardi who played with Jack Quinn who played with Willie Keeler who played with Jim O'Rourke who played with George Wright who started at shortstop for the first all-professional team, the 1869 Cincinnati Reds.

Can we include the negro leagues and minors? A bit of a stretch, but:

Satchel Paige (1926-1966)
Johnny Bench (1966-1983)
Greg Harris (1983-1995)

Actually was looking at guys who played on the same team. We can obviously expand this at least through 2007 otherwise...

Gotta think someone could weave Nolan Ryan and Darren Oliver (1993; Ryan's last and Oliver's first year) with a player Ryan played with in '66 or '68...

between Oliver and Ryan you get '66-2013....

Best I could do was Roy McMillan who started in 1951....

So 1951-2013...62 years there

OR...are we including managers? Manager of the '66 Mets was Wes Westrum, who made his debut in '47.....1947-2013 is 66 years.

If we include managers and players I came up with

Connie Mack 1886-1950
Managed Bobby Shantz 1950-1964
Played for Gene Mauch 1964-1987
Managed Mark Mclemore 1987-2004
Played with Nick Swisher (2004-2015)

Neat thread. One of the reasons I'm addicted to the Board. Thanks, Peter.

Team no. 2 from the second trivia question is still unidentified. Perhaps Dr. Frank wants to redeem himself?

If you take out the teammate requirement, and substitute a played against one, you get this question, not difficult but still pretty amazing. Name a pitcher who pitched to both a player who started in 1939 and a player who retired in 2007, 68 years apart.
