Default t206 honus piedmont/sweet coporal?

Posted By: steve

according to the t206 museum, there is only about 50 to 60 t206 honus wagner cards and they only made his card with the sweet coporal and piedmont backs. there are only 3 known with the piedmont back and the rest of them were sweet coporal. does this make a piedmont in the same shape as a sweet coporal worth more?

Yes, it would to me.

And I should know since mine is a Sweet Caporal and I would gladly trade it for a Piedmont in similar condition and even throw some cash in the deal.

i personally dont think it would make a difference since the price is based on what someone is willing to pay. if i was going to pay $250,000.00, i would not pay more or less because its a sweet caporal back and not a piedmont (and vice-a-versa). i would just be happy to get one

Well, as Hal points out, a Piedmont back takes the card from the status of arguably not rare, to 1 of 3.

I agree with Hal.....if I had my druthers (or is it "dollar$" - lot$); I would
prefer the Piedmont 150 back. My theory is that Piedmont T206's were the
very 1st to be marketed; therefore, I would have the very 1st Wagner issued.

I am with Hal, the Piedmont would bring a slight premium in theory. The problem is that there are only two confirmed: the PSA 8 and the Charles Bray hand-cut one that Mastro sold about 4 or 5 years ago. It was not a particularly attractive Wagner in my opinion because it seemed to have some kind of ink markings or dirt of some type on the front. It also has a yellowish orange background But at a time when PSA 1 Wagners were selling in the 70k range, it sold for around 86K. The third one is one that was offered in an ad in the Trader Speaks 25+ years ago, but there was no picture. It was never confirmed; and it has not surfaced since. So I would really say there are two known (and a possible unconfirmed third). But I think that if there were one that looked like Hal's, it would definately draw a premium. How else would one complete a T206 set with all front/back combinations?

Now that would be the REAL "monster" if you had to have BOTH Wagner cards to complete it!
