This is a set I am considering trying to collect,as a side project. From what I've read, the set contains only 7 individuals from the World Champion Philadelphia Athletics.I didn't know this, but(thanks Leon)these were ink blotters. The cards listed below are the ones I know about-maybe there are more?
1)Frank Baker
2)Chief Bender
3)Bris Lord
4)Harry Davis
5)Connie Mack(Mngr)
6)Danny Murphy
7)Rube Oldring
8)Ira Thomas
If anyone has pictures, scans, information, cool stories about them,-please contribute to this post,I'd appreciate it,and thank you in advance-that includes you too Archive.

Regards,Clayton

These are the two that I currently own. I have found you can't be too picky about finding them without writing as they are usually found used (as intended).

Default You're missing the Jack Barry

Here's the gallery from old cardboard--the set was featured there recently.

You gotta think an Eddie Collins had to have been produced, which (if found) would represent each position and the Manager (Mack).
-Rhett

Edited to add: I obviously missed the Collins being found, which I had always suspected. This probably constitutes a whole set, but they could always include another pitcher...

There is an article on these in the latest Old Cardboard by Bill Cornell that pictures the Collins. Issue #21, pp 18-19, here is the scan of the Collins.

Default I think the last checklist I saw on this set

Had 9 "blotters" total. Let's get the full count and add that to our listings and we can archive this set as well. This was a set I really enjoyed adding to the Beckett DB when I first heard about them back in the day. I think I even wrote a "mini-feature" of approximately three paragraphs on this set for the Baseball monthly.

Rich,
Bill's article pictures 10 total blotters. One for each position and a Mack.

Frank Baker - erroneously listed as a 1B (3B)
Jack Barry - SS
Eddie Collins - 2B
Harry Davis - 1B
Bris Lord - LF
Danny Murphy - RF
Rube Oldring - CF
Ira Thomas - C
Chief Bender - P
Connie Mack - MGR

I had the chance to buy one of these, a common (Jack Barry?), about 15 years ago that was in really nice condition and that had no writing on it. The seller wanted $200 dollars for it.

I didn't buy it because I didn't know if it was real or not and also because I didn't have the money. Plus, $200 dollars back then was probably overpriced. Currently, I don't know.

Looking back, I wish I had bought the Stevens blotter (along with a nice condition Kalamazoo Bats common with the advertising back another seller wanted $600 dollars for).

I believe you will have hard time touching any of these without ink for $200 now.

I picked up my single example earlier this year and was surprised at how large the card (blotter) actually was. I guess most blotters do tend to be oversized. Fortunately, the example I won was in great shape without any ink marks. I think it would be a very difficult set to complete and it will cost you a pretty penny to even acquire one with ink on it (as stated earlier). They are a neat type piece though and one you don't see every day.

Thank you all for responding and showing some great examples. As I do with T206,I will be like a turtle, picking up one at a time here or there.Leon, you may be hearing from me,if my wife still plans on buying me a card or two for Xmas.I know with these I can't be too picky(as far as clean ones compared to ones with ink on them),but knowing me,I will be.I am by no means a near mint to mint collector, but I am picky about pencil marks on T206,so..........I'll probably have to get past that on these............................I appreciate all of the knowledge and scans and links..............thank you.
Sincerely,Clayton
