Default Slightly OT: 1930s/1940s Baseball in Color

Ever since I watched the When It Was A Game video series, I've been fascinated with seeing baseball's early days in color. After collecting hundreds of color pictures from 1950s Sport magazines, I'm now searching out Sunday News color sections from the late 1930s and early 1940s. I recently came up with some beauties, several of which are displayed here. The originals are larger than the scans. Also, I've provided some links to my collection of them ...

Default Chris---

Just looked at your 1950-'60's Sport Mag pics---Do you have a record of what issues they came from & what issues/pics you are missing?

Also, wondering if you have the mags & cut out the pics yourself?

Fred, I have no complete checklist, and most don't have dates on the back. I picked up a huge lot a couple years back (more than 600 in one lot on eBay for about $60!) and I've only scanned a fraction of them. All were removed from the magazines when I got them. I simply scanned them and cropped them in Photoshop ...

Default Mag Photos

I've picked these up for years, usually in $1 boxes at shows, etc. I had just scanned this one yesterday to use with an old cut to make a custom card.

Great photos Chris - You know I'm partial to the Reds but the photo of Klu with those huge arms is fantastic.

Thanks Chris---I was curious as to how you got started collecting just the full-page photos and buying one large lot explains it.

Every issue had maybe 3-4 beautiful full color, full page photos that you didn't see anywhere else and they were a highlite of each issue.

I was a 1st time subscriber to Sport Magazine when I was 10 yrs old--from 1950 thru 1958--and I still have every single one of those copies--none missing.

Chris - great photos. I share your fascination with color pictures of the Golden Age. There's something about those full color Sport magazine and Sunday newspaper supplements. I collect any of them featuring Cardinals . . . especially Musial. They make great displays.
