Default CSA rating of 8 vs PSA rating of 8 Help?!

eBay has a listing for a Frank Chance yellow portrait, SC with a CSA 8 rating.
Is this the same as a PSA 8 rating?

I would say that there is no way to compare a CSA8 to a PSA8 because I do not know CSA. Buy the card not the grade. I would not buy that particular card because it is so poorly photographed that it impossible to even guess whether it is potentially trimmed. Why would anyone only photograph a card at an angle from the camera if not to deceive? Stand over it and take a picture or better yet scan it. Not rocket science but if you buy the card based on that listing you are trusting the grade.

I would say a Csa 8 9 or 10 for that matter is equal to a psa card returned with no grade due to trimming or some other type of altering. I wouldnt get near that card. Why would anyone get a card graded by csa unless they can't receive an acceptable grade from a more reputable tpg. Don't do it.

CSA 8 is equal to PSA or SGC trimmed.
Unless it's a large slab with blue inlay around card and blue plastic flip, then a CSA 8 is about a PSA 7 to 8.

Default Csa

I've had about 1 in 10 that would flip to a numerical SGC or PSA grade.

A CSA 8 is the exact same as a PSA 8

I don't think so even with that example. A Wagner in PSA 8 will get you 2.8 mil. A Wagner in CSA 8 will get you zero.

I wasn't talking about value as much the equivalent of what they mean.

At least you weren't the guy that laid down $2.8M for a trimmed card.

In theory they should be identical. The issue with CSA is the number of trimmed cards that are given a grade rather than AUTH. I bought a CSA 7
T206 McIntyre. I measured it when I received it and found it to be smaller than my other cards. This story is all too familiar to others here. The good news is that I didn't pay anywhere near a PSA 7 price for the card.

Default I would value sight unseen

as equal to a nice looking PSA or SGC authentic. Comparing this to the Wagner is a joke almost any startup, in 1992, looking to make a name for themselves would have graded the Wagner. I am not saying it was the right thing to do. However, as this board has exposed may times, the right thing to do is not always what is done in this business.

If a high end card currently resides in a CSA holder it is usually because the owner doesn't think it will crossover to SGC or PSA. Of course all TPG's make mistakes but the industry still trusts some and not others, and rightfully so, imo. (that doesn't mean you can look at any card in any holder blindly, so don't)

+1, except probably even more than 2.8 mil. The latest controversy merely adds to the hobby lore. The risk of trimming has been far too high with CSA. I don't believe they knew what to look for regarding the edges under magnification to detect it. You can't simply measure the card.

Collect well,

Larry
