Default Need advice on crossover / re-grading

I'm sure this has been covered before but I am about to try this on a wider scale than ever so could use one specific bit of advice.

I know PSA and SGC claim to contact each other on crossovers to correct pop reports (deleting the former record for that card) but does this really happen all or most, or any, of the time? Do they have to be pushed by the card owner, and how? I wonder what experience of others has been.

I ask because for cards that are not that scarce it often doesn't make much of a difference unless super high grade where you'd like your card to be "top graded" or "only two higher" or whatever. But for more scarce cards it would seem to matter a lot. Let's say I have Card X in SGC 5 where there are only 3 cards that have been graded that are 5 and none better. Let's say I successfully cross over to PSA at the same 5. But the SGC pop report does not get corrected--so now there are FOUR 5s that are listed, which negates any perceived value gain in going with PSA.

Well, you get the idea. Is it actually best to NOT try to cross over a scarce card for this reason?

I did a crossover on a T51 Murad Dickinson that was an SGC 55 (4.5) and crossed it over to PSA. It does not show up in the SGC pop report any more, or at least I can't find it. PSA finished the grading in November 2016.
