Default Rogers Hornsby Value Help

Gents,

I already own a hornsby cut signature, but have recently been offered another in trade... first off, is there a reason why the Rajah's signature isn't up there with the likes of cobb & wagner??? I typically see them in the $400-$600 range with several buy it nows on ebay at $1k plus...

In any case, the piece that I have been offered is a 2.5" x4" (estimated size) photo of hornsby in a new york giants uniform (1927). the autograph is defintely on a photo... the photo is inscribed "to otto best wishes rogers hornsby" it was initially sold a clean sweap in 2009 and certified by spence...

any idea as to what this pieces market value would fall at these days???

Thanks for your help & happy memorial day...

I hope that amid the sun, beers, and barbecue today that we all found the time to give thanks to those brave members of the US armed forces who paid the ultimate price in giving their lives to secure our freedom...

to those board members who are current or former service members; I appreciate your service!

-Dave

Hornsby = more supply vs Wagner

Cobb = more demand vs Rajah

This is one of those items that is tough to sell, due to the size of the photo, so a price tag on it depends on how strongly the dealer wants a quick sale or wants to sit with it in his inventory for a long, long time.
I would guestimate, without seeing the picture, that $600-700 would be a decent price.

Default hornsby auto...

worked out the deal this evening... actually kind of dig the piece despite the personalization... if anyone is interested in trading for it let me know... photo is 3x4.5" and is inscribed "to otto best regards rogers hornsby" signature and inscription are very bold photo is of hornsby in giants uni. reverse has hand writing that says Rogers hornsby second base st louis cardinals... photo has an auction loa from clean sweap and jsa... came matted and framed, but i think it looks much better outside of the matt & frame

Nice ! Hornsby is kind of tough to find on a photo. Also he used proxy signatures alot going all the way back to the 1920's. In the 1950's His girlfriend signed alot for him , she ended up jumping out of a very high window

If you bat .400 or better three times there is an unwritten law that you are allowed as many wifes as you want, and they don;t even have to like you

Jim - doesn't the "1962" date make it worth significantly more?

Steve , I don;t think the date "1962" helps the value alot, yes its true he died in Jan 1963 but he was very much in the public eye again in 1962 , from 1958-1962 he probably signed more autographs than he did during his entire playing career. As he was coach for the Cubs begining in 1958 and eventually the 1962 Mets
