Here is Rogers on the top step. Different pose makes this card kind of special.

Thanks! The top left corner of the Hornsby cabinet is held on with tape, it's real fragile.

Not in the same league as these great pieces, but it is my only Hornsby item and a cool image even if it is a little rough.

In his only year managing in the PCL, Hornsby led the 1951 Seattle Rainiers to their first championship in 10 years.

An underappreciated one. But I like it, because it dates from the Cardinal's first World Series championship year. And it was cheap!

Will -

That William Paterson is one of the coolest images of Rajah that I've seen. I've been at this a long time and I'm surprised I haven't seen that card before. An image like that usually sticks out in my head. I've owned my fair share of Paterson's, but for some reason, don't recall the Hornsby. Very cool!

Oh, and Chris, I've always loved Hornsby's "Big Head". I think I owned that exact example and got crushed selling via PWCC back in 2014. Ironically, I also owned a PSA 6 and sold it via Goodwin back in 2013 and made a killing. Go figure! Your SGC 20 has very nice borders and presents very nicely for a "Big Head". Great card!

Great cards everyone! I was inspired to look up Hornsby's career. Hard to believe a guy could hit 424 and finish second in the MVP.

Thanks,
My Big Head has done a few travels across our boards. I got it from Glenn(darwinbulldog) back in March 2015.

The MVP award started in 1924. Hornsby won twice, second once, and third once. Prior to 1924, if they had the award, looks like he may have another 2 or 3 MVP's. Wow!

Hornsby is, I continue to believe, a very under-appreciated player, and probably by most objective standards, the greatest right-handed hitter of all time: 3 .400 seasons; two triple crowns; highest lifetime OBP (.433) for a righty; .358 lifetime average (second only to Cobb); and likely would have hit 400+ HR's if his career had not been cut short by injury. One of just seven players in history to create more than 200% of the league average runs created by a player (a Bill James stat I happen to place considerable weight on in evaluating players' offense) over the course of his entire career.
Sorry, no scanner, but he is a favorite of mine, as evidenced by the following cards of him that I have: 1917-20 Felix Mendelsohn; 1928 R315 (yellow stock variation); and 1921 Exhibit.

Best to all,

Larry

Default Rajah : Butterfinger Candy-wrapper turn-in Premium..

..issued in 1934 ; I got lucky and blundered into a tall stack of these in virtually new condition . No Ruth or Gehrig though . But that's okay. There are no pinholes or tears or tape ; no paste-stains or folds or writing and the corners are still points..... Count your blessings sometimes.

I picked this one up a few months back. The white mark in the middle is a few scratches on the case.

Default From 1936 :an R-311-2 Leather Finish National Chicle Premium

somewhat rare card from a fairly-scarce issue ; the elegant cursive script in lower right is " National Studios" ;the blank-back photo-card itself is 6" x 8" and Beckett used a 10" x 13" four-pound envelope of plastic to slab it........ this card ain't goin' nowhere....''
