Default Spud Chandler cards or pictures

The recent thread on the autographs coming back through the mail reminded me of the last one of these I had sent off. It was to Spud Chandler who played with the Yankess from 1937-47. Would love to see any old cards anyone has of him, or postcards, or even better yet autographs. He sent the card back to me signed within a couple weeks (the card was one of those 80's favorites from the past crap cards or something like that). The autograph on the card is very shakey, looks like a little kid signed it, he was quite old and died three weeks after I got the card back. I would be willing to bet if I sent the autograph in it wouldn't even come back authentic with the way it looks, but I have no doubt it's his.

Which is very similar to your Spud Chandler story. A friend of mine got an in-person auto here in Dallas a year before he passed; that autograph looks nothing like the other samples I have of his. No, I can't scan

There was an article in the metro section of the Post the other day where the reporter followed a curator at the National Archives into a climate-controlled vault containing historic old documents. One was a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Lincoln. The signature was wobbly, the curator explained, because Lincoln's hand was weakened by having shaken many peoples' hands just prior to signing. Without that info, a authenticator might be inclined to deem such a John Hancock a fake.

A nice photo of Spud from the 1947 Yankee Stadiun Photo pack.

I believe Spud holds an all-time Major Lge. pitching record......what is it ?

the 1947-66 card is a very underrated card. Tough to find because it had a short print run. A shame since this all time winning % record holder should be better recognized.

Nice going guy....not too many know this Trivia fact.

And, you are certainly right....I have all the Yankees' Exhibit cards, except for Chandler.

There is a wonderful Baseball Magazine supplement of Spud that came out sometime in the 1940s. The photo was taken in spring training, and it's a particularly striking image. If someone on the board has it, could you post it?
