Default the love of card collecting

Posted By: Frank Wakefield

With sincerely good intentions, would it be possible for all of us, including me, recognizing the following:

1- that to be here at this forum we obviously love baseball card collecting,

2- we hold the game itself (or at least the game as it used to be) in high regard, and

3- we all realistically do, using the definition of love that is based on the greek word for love, "philia", affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests... that we all love one another.

Well it might be possible.

Bruce, Jim, others... I'm glad you collect cards, and are passionate about how and what you collect. Go for it, don't stop!!

Hope your holidays are safe.

Frank W.

Not sure I would ever speak for Frank but my guess is he probably feels he's been a little hard on a few individuals lately. I am sure he thinks everyone should be happy and collect what they want to. I feel the same way. I always feel better when there's less controversy going on....regards

Leon,

Okay--just don't want to be singled out in a negative way for 1)Trying to get something done which hurts the value of my collection but helps the hobby and 2)Voicing honest opinions.

Jim

a box s 6 sides. A square has 4 sides. A square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square and box is neither

Jay

I love pinatas. You get to beat the crap of something and get rewarded with candy.

Refreshing post. Maybe we can't have Peace on Earth for Christmas, but Peace on the Net54 board would be a welcome change. Happy Holiday's. Joe

People said it was a million dollar wound. But the government must keep that money, cause I ain't never seen a penny of it.

I just made one too!.. My smart-ass wife said, 'You remind me of that Seinfeld episode, when Elaine is cheering and clapping at the spinning tire display'.

Happy Holidays to all regardless of what you collect, how you collect it and whether you slab it or not. There's room for everyone.

To bump this back on the first page, and so that some of the Scrooges (including me) here can maybe walk around today and smile at someone...

Let us be nice, to one another and other people, I wish for everyone a safe and happy holiday.

Thanks for the kind words Frank, I hope you and yours have a warm Holiday. When things get hostile here, at home, or on the job, I just try to think of our good people in the middle east and suddenly my life's a cakewalk again.

I rec'd several used books yourself and the others suggested. I won't open them until the 25th when they'll be new to me.

"Collectors often decried how money had ruined their hobby, making it hard for them to form meaningful friendships through their cards. Money, however, made the hobby not only profitable but also more serious, more instrumental, and therefore more manly. The same collectors who complained about greed often bragged in the same interview about the value of their cards. Yet money, in turn, made the hobby less akin to child's play and more like work: lonely, competitive, unfulfilling, and alienating." - Author John Bloom in A House of Cards (1997)
