Default Graded memorabilia other than cards

Posted By: Ken McMillan

Hello to all,

I was wondering if anyone has graded memorabilia other than cards. I have pages from the reach and spalding books from 1915 to 1922 some of whick has been "graded". 2 pieces were graded by SMA grading which I can no longer find this service. Another is graded by BSVA grading service. I have 2 more that are not graded. The question I have is what service would be recommended for having additional non card items graded and encapsulated. Does SCG or PSA grade these kinf of items? Suggestions?

Ken

I'm pretty sure all of those Spalding guide photos that are graded are not really accepted by anyone in the hobby. I think the guy(s) selling those on ebay do all the "grading" themselves. No reputable grading service grades magazine cutouts.

What you say makes sense. They do however display quite nicely for this type of memorabilia. The grading of the sheets I have is really not important to me, but more the presentation. If you have ever seen the holders they come in, it would be acceptible for display of the pages. This is why I am posing the question.

he seems to the scam artist behind all the "graded" paper cutouts.

I actually found the 5 x 7 screw down lucite holders on ebay and will cut the pages to fit for display. The graded thing is not important tp me as these are all the Yankees teams that my great great uncle played on. I can display the teams with his SCG graded cards (10 different varieties so far). Should look quite nice when I'm done.

Hi Ken,

I was curious as to who your great great uncle was. My great grandfather was Lute Boone. He played on the Yankees as you may know. I am constantly culling the internet to find anything associated with him. To date I have a 1914 blanket with him on it and I lost a bid on eBay for a baseball card he was on. Just interested. Thanks!

Hi Matt,

My great great uncle was Elmer Miller. He played center field for the Yankees for several years in the teens to 1922. He was the Center fielder for the 1921 yankees in the world series. interesting story in that he was the first yankee to ever get a hit in a world series. Also he was the first yankee to ever score a run in a world series and was a team mate of Bab Ruth. I looked through my stuff and found your relative and mine were teammates in 1916. I have a page from a 1917 Spalding guide picturing the team and Uncle Elmer and your relative are in the pick. Pretty cool!!!
