Default Concerning items cut from vintage magazines

Posted By: MW

In additional to not allowing certain JavaScripts, eBay now issues the following warning when the word "reprint" is included within the text of a listing:

Attention Sellers:

It appears that your listing may violate eBay’s policies that regulate where an item can be listed.

The following is provided to protect you from listing in an inappropriate category. Pre-printed items and re-prints are not allowed in the autograph categories. These items MUST be listed in Memorabilia Categories. In addition to this you are required to state "re-print" or "reprint" or "pre-print" or "preprint" in the TITLE. Failure to do so, could result in auctions ended and possible suspension of your account. Please review your listing to make sure that it does not violate this eBay policy.

My question is this: Since those who sell AAA and NASA "graded" scrap are repackaging something that has already been printed (or printed for a different use), could this in any way be considered "pre-printing?" If not (I'm just throwing this one out there), can anyone think of any effect this new policy might have on those who list worthless scraps of paper in categories designed for baseball cards?

To begin with, the warning states that you are violating eBay policy by listing an item (any item) in the wrong catagory. This alone should be enough to get AAA/NASA 'scrap' tossed from the card catagories and moved to memorabilia/others since there is possible way anyone can claim they are cards. They even state they are paper cut outs, so can't claim they are cards.

Sounds like it is time to flood eBay with more email about this miscatagorized crap.

Jay

I agree that this stuff is essentially fraud and the seller should be banned from eBay. Simularly, I think that many grading companies should be banned-- just as many 'foul ball' autograph authenticators are banned. However, eBay's not going to do anything about it, end of story.

What I beleive should be done, if anything it to be done, is that there should be a letter detailing the problems of these items. It should be signed by people respected within the hobby and recognizable outside the hobby. Bill Mastro, Bob Lemke, Rob Lifson, Leila Dunbar, Beckett (forget his first name), etc. Likely, eBay will still do nothing (and likely half of these people will be too lilly livered to sign the letter), but if any practical action will have weight, it would be this.

The grading standards used are designed for "cards" and cards exclusively in any grading book or price guide!.........how is a magazine page "Ex-Mt" when in fact the terms of grading do not apply? My Buick is "ex-mt" ??? Not!
