Default 1915 Salt Lake Bees Postcard - Lefty Williams?

Just curious if Lefty Williams of the Black Sox is in the team picture on this postcard. I know he was on this team in 1915.

certainly possible. The image is so small and the players faces in shadow and half tone so it's hard to tell. If you could find this same image as a photo and pinpoint Williams, then you could be certain he's there.

Maybe the guy kneeling second from right, front row. Again, nearly impossible to be certain based on this image... at least for me.

Thanks Jason,
I'm going to take a proper scan of the team photo when I get the card. Thanks for your help!

--- I agree - From a micro look, I was going to say the front row 2nd from right as well. When we see the large scan it shouldn't be too hard. (I bet a cup of coffee it is the front row 2nd from right guy...)

Default Speculation :

Lefty would either be 2nd guy on left middle or 2nd guy on left front row. (If you are facing the PC looking at it) Those are the only 2 guys with the drawn in jaw / skinny jaw/chin look...

I originally thought it was the front row 2nd guy, but after a closer look I am going with the middle row 2nd guy... I believe it is Lefty.

Well, yeah. If it's a postcard with Lefty Williams on it, it's worth a whole heck of a lot more to a lot of people. It's an awesome postcard either way, but way more awesome with Lefty Williams on it.

Default Lefty..

Here is a Lefty Team Issue I once owned which is within in a year or so of the date of your PC. I think the middle 2nd row guy is Lefty.

I'd look to the Spalding and Reach guides to see if there are any matches for that team photo.

If I had to hazard a guess (which is impossible given the photo clarity on the postcard) the person "most similar" to Williams in my opinion is the guy 5th from the right in the back row. Again, barring finding that exact photo in a periodical with players identified it will be nearly impossible to definitively prove he is on there.

Paul - I agree with you that it is not the 2nd row middle guy. After further reflection I have figured out that it is not the Top row 5th guy either, so you Stop it!

Drum roll please.... It is the bottom row 5th guy (Guy in the center) That is Lefty Williams! (He's easy to gloss over b/c he has his head tilted down, but I know that face. That is Lefty. Compare to the 1914 B&W photo I posted. It's a match.

Insane? Maybe, but I disagree. It is the bottom row 5th (Center guy) guy. The top row guy looks similar for sure, but I can easily say the same for the bottom row 5th guy.

Perhaps we need to find a spalding or reach guide to verify, but since you and I are both so sure, we should put that conviction to the test. How bout a friendly wager ? How bout a BIN on Ebay for $25 or less ? Harmless, but holds us both to our belief that we are both right. You in or are you chicken?

Default Ok... It's on like....

Now, the fun part. Someone has to prove it. Hopefully the collecting community can help out. If anyone has a 1915-16 Reach or Spalding guide, please check the PCL section for possibly the picture with names, etc. - Should be some fun! Good Luck Paul -
