Exhibit cards

Guys, I went to a local antique shop and ran across a few exhibit cards. I found about 5 of them - all commons except a Harold "Pee Wee" Reese in the fielding position. Along with these 5 cards I found about 3-4 wrestling exhibit cards - which I didn't know much about. Can any of you tell me about these cards/postcards? They were really cheap in the range of $3.50 for each wrestling card and up to $12.00 being the most expensive for the "Pee Wee" Reese exhibit card. Is this a good deal?

P.S. Before leaving the store I picked up "The Sporting News Record Book for 1933" with Jimmie Foxx on the front cover and back cover for about $14.00. It is in pretty good shape.

Mostly made by the Exhibit Supply Company, the postcard sized Exhibit cards were made from the 1910s-60s and were sold in vending machines. Exhibit Supply made the machines. Subjects include baseball, football, wrestling, boxing and movie stars. The cards are generally cheap, except for Pre-War baseball stars and and a few other sports notables. As you didn't mention condition, it's impossible to determine value, but it's unlikely that you've made a great find. $3.50 for a common 1950s wrestler with honest wear is probably a fair price, and is probably not worth much more.

That's why I was thinking the Pee Wee Reese would be a good buy at $12.00.

My guess is the $12 is a bit overpriced. Though, if the card in in high grade, a fair price.

The Reese card was in great shape. To be honest, they all were. There was also a 1956 Brooklyn Dodgers team exhibit card. I want to believe it was between $8-$10.

If you are asking me if the cards are worth a lot more than they're priced at, I would say probably not.

I can say the $14 you paid for the Reach guide sounds like a good deal. Most antique stores would price it much higher.

Well, I didn't get any of the exhibit cards - just the Sporting News Record of 1933 with Jimmie Foxx. It isn't missing any pages. Considering it is 74 years old, the only thing is the front cover and back cover are detached from the rest of the miniature size booklet. However, it came with both the front and back cover - so, they weren't lost. The rest of the booklet is competely together.
