Default Drew Brees

Ok so I'll admit a bias.
I am a fanatic Saints fan despite a lukewarm relationship with the NFL itself. For a number of reasons, I dislike what the game has become.

But I wanted to shout out about Drew Brees and his remarkable career!
Look at what he's doing and the amazing records he is compiling.
He's also a very humble and grounded man who classes up the NFL a bit. Oh, were it to be that there were more players like him.

While I'm at it...does anyone understand the "passer rating" metric that the league came up with?

Last night, despite an all-time record for pass completion percentage, 4TD, no interceptions and 300+ yards, his "rating" was less than the perfect score.

A few guys get this mysterious perfect score each season. But to top the game that Brees had yesterday would be statistically pretty difficult. I suppose it must be the total yards. But I dont know the calculation method that leaves this game short.

Oh well. Congrats to Drew on a fantastic game. And a fantastic career. He's got a few more years to build on his records too.

Geaux Saints!

Brian-I wondered the same thing about his QB rating yesterday. Brees is a class act. I have liked him since he bought and donated the John Wooden college uniform to Purdue.

Some of my favorite memories growing up was watching Purdue football games together with my dad. I remember being about 12 years old we watched Drew "Cool" Brees make his first start for Purdue. When Purdue came to Florida, I attended my very first football game Purdue vs. UCF. After that game...I was hooked.. dude could play.

I continued to follow Brees NFL career very closely, even after NFL scouts, team owners...said, "He's too small". He proved them wrong in San Diego. He had a nasty 1 in 500 type shoulder injury, which basically ended his career in most everyone eyes. He wanted to prove them wrong...and Saints allowed him to do just that.

Couldn't be happier for Brees! He worked his butt off, proved people wrong, mastered his craft all while being a class act and never letting fame get to his head. As a Purdue Alum, I'm proud to say he's a Boilermaker.

For sometime - as in years! - I've thot the idiot the Dolts had as GM when DB played for them, dumped the wrong QB, favoring Rivers. When DB blew out his arm attempting a tackle, this yo-yo said he'd never recover. Think he did! Rivers - by all accounts is a great guy and quality NFL QB, as is DB. Still, given the advantage of hindsight, I would take Brees in a heartbeat over Rivers. Curse of the moronic Spani owners!

Passer rating is based on completion %, yards per attempt, TD% and Int %. To have a perfect rating you have to average at least 12.5 yards per attempt. Brees averaged 10.23.

Default Formula

Thanks for the formula.
Seems pretty arbitrary.
Anything above 10 results in a lot of first downs. But yes, 12+ is better.
But it doesn’t have to make sense to me

Regardless, Drew Brees is a fantastic player, and by all accounts a very good man. I am very proud to call myself a fan.
