Now, that the auction's over, what do you all think?

The card is smaller than the one auctioned by REA in 2004 and has much wider borders. And the names at the bottom extend into the side borders, which they did not do on the REA card.

The seller was Bryan Dec. While certainly not a 19th century or negro league specialist, he does deal in vintage material, seems knowledgeable, and I've never heard anything particularly bad about him. I emailed him and he acknowledged this card was different than REA's. He said that it was removed from a turn of the century scrapbook. He said he had seen one other like it. He also said the stock is thinner than a T3 but thicker than a Lorillard. (Having never held a Lorillard, I wasn't 100% sure what that meant).

I'd really like to hear what you folks think of this one.

Is it possible this was cut from a scorecard or program?

I thought about that, but the ad on the back is consistent with the card in the REA auction. It would be a coincidence (but not impossible) for a scorecard to have the same ad line up perfectly on the back of the photo.

I would not worry about it. It is obviously authentic and was not cut from something else like a program or it would be thinner stock and the back would not match up that well. Besides, I dont think the Page Fence Giants made printed programs for their games and if anything they would have used a scorecard which at any given spot would have a piece of a lineup card on the back of it.

Bryan knows his stuff and everything looks exactly as described. Despite the condition I think it was still a bargain at the price it ended at.

I would have bid more. That's a great card. There's been 3 great early negro league cards and card like items up for grabs this year. It's nice to know this stuff is out there.
