Default How many (sub) collections do you have?

Thought it might be interesting to see how many focal points people may have with regards to collecting pre-war cards...I know some are really focused (e.g. only one player), and then there are those without any focus whatsoever.
So, how many collections are you building?

Me (4):
T-cards: Chicago Cubs Team Sets
International baseball (sort of)
T200 Set
T206 Classic Images

more in post-war, but that's OT

Interesting Post. I currently have the following "sets/subsets" going, and in no particular order

1.) Colgans Chips (E254, Red Borders, and Tin Tops)
2.) Zeenuts 1911-38 (primarily focusing on 1911-23 pre-B/W sets)
3.) E121-like cards (primarily the non Am. Caramel backs but I also collect those)
4.) Pre-1930 Player Pinbacks
5.) Roy Castleton collection (still need Western Playground and D311)
6.) Walter Mails Game (I have the much tougher Blue set but pick up the red backs when they are cheap)
7.) several other minor things also going on (E135, M101-4/5 back types, misc. types, etc.)

Recently abandoned "sets" include E220, 1921 & 1922 Exhibits, several of the Diamond Matchbook sets, etc.

Hmmm...I think all of my collection falls under "Nebraska related", but there are subsets.

1) Nebraska Indians
2) Lincoln Minor League
3) Nebraska town team and minor league postcards
4) cards of players born in Nebraska

#4 is on hold at the moment because we're adding a mouth to the litter ($1 to Cousin Eddie) and those are the easiest to find.

One Hall of Fame Rookie collection is enough for me, no additional subsets here.

Lajoie (with Cleveland) cards

Cleveland Indians type cards

R306 Butter Cream set

Players named Dewolf

Have been contemplating for months starting another set (E103? Diamond Stars? 1934 Goudey?) but haven't yet pulled the trigger.

T206 Backs line HOFer (and interesting guys) on front is the main part of my collection. I started on the T206 set as a low stress option (on the 16 year plan).

Default i'm collecting ...

-- N28 Allen & Ginter baseball
-- T206s. Have about 30 to go, some of which I'll never see -- Honus and Doyle most especially;

Time out. The first two sets were made a century or so ago, and feature artwork and composition that's miles ahead of the crap being sold today. No wonder we like vintage material -- it's just better quality. Back to the task:

-- 34 Goudeys
-- Diamond Stars
-- 41 Play Balls done
-- 52T Hi #s, but that's post-war and doesn't count,
-- Salutation Exhibits

I also have a large mess of 47-66 Exhibits, but I've never considered them to be collectibles. Some were purchased at penny arcades, but most came from cello packs I bought in the early 80s and are in great shape.

You've just made me decide to inventory the stuff and take it to the other board for sale.

Oh, great, so you think you're the King now? Are you going to start referring to yourself in third person now? Or use the royal we?

Jim, those are some pretty cool cards. It seems like Rob was a pretty fair baseball player, at least until his glasses broke and he lost all his powers.

Well, I mean Rob was ok -- but did you know that before Elkins got injured he could hit a softball 400 feet? Even while skinning a rooster with his left hand?

Sometimes I think my whole collection is one big mass of sub collections.

I have trouble staying focused on any one thing.

Default Bobby Doerr

I received an email from a member asking about an Exhibit Doerr, as mentioned in a note I ran here yesterday in this thread.

Tim, I wrote a reply, but my DELL computer once again screwed up its delivery, simultaneously managing to delete your note. Please accept my apology. I'm sure Mike Dell will be sending his regrets too

Unfortunately I don't have a Doerr in any conditon. They're alphabetized, and between teammates Dom DiMaggio and Walt Dropo I find nothing but a big empty.

Sorry.

Bob

That is my answer almost to a T. My whole collection is a subcollection. Since I never could stay focused I have always mainly been a type collector. That, and I have always liked variety.

I do collect Nixie Callahan a little bit, and a few other obscure sets, but mainly I have always focused on being unfocused

T206 (HOF'ers, tougher backs)
T213

Then anything that might be one-off that I find super interesting.
