So what do you hope to accomplish in collecting, and in the hobby, in 2008?

My hope is to continue the type collecting path and maybe focus a little more (buy a little less for my collection)....If I could limit my buys to upgrades, or things to fill a hole, it would help a lot....Buying cards because they look neat can get costly... ....

edited spelling....had a brain lapse...thanks Barry

I will be looking to upgrade my HOF collection by acquiring as many cards/pins/postcards/photos as I can afford which pre-date the one(s) I already own.

Phil

Can you give me your e mail address?

Also, so as not to kill the thread, I hope to add a few signatures to my pre WW2 non-hall of fame collection, preferably Roy Castleton Eddie grant or Louis Sockalexis.

My hobby hopes are as follows: First, I am going to do my damnedest to get to the Chicago National this summer. I had a great time meeting the West Coast guys in Anaheim two years ago and I'd like to shake some East Coast hands this time, oogle all that lovely cardboard and maybe take in a Cubs game. It's a long way from Honolulu to Illinois (just ask Barack Obama) but it would be a dream trip. Second, I'd like to get some control over my disorganized collection. I finally own a scanner, thanks to the bride, and I would like to employ it in compiling an organized inventory. Would like to add pictures to my SGC Registry D304 set and maybe put my T3 set on the PSA registry, too. Also have a whack of cards I'd like to get graded, and since I have never shipped cards to a grader it will be a bit of a big deal for me. Third, I do not plan on repeating 2007's big ticket orgy (but ya never know) but instead hopefully will stick to filling the odd puka in my collection, e.g., don't have a Zeenut with a coupon and don't have any OJs so maybe the right typecard will come along.

Edited to add: Fourth hobby hope is to shorten my N54 log-in name to help keep threads from doing that annoying wrap-around thing. And why I am denoted as "Select Login" as opposed to plain "Login" is a mystery to me. Maybe it's just because I'm like, you know, special.

Hauoli Makahiki Hou, Hoppy New Jeer and all that jazz to all of you, and say a kind word heavenward for Hawaii's Rainbow Warriors as they attempt to avoid getting their butts killed on Tuesday.

I hope to add at least one more T206 to my low grade SGC set. That will give me an even 500.

(...then I will work on hitting the lottery so I can get the rest of the set!)

That's a done deal barring catastrophe. As far as goals:

--Finish a few more sets: can't say which ones since I can't predict whati'll come up for sale.

--Downsize the collection to manageable levels.

--Have fun, get healthier, laugh more (at myself), worry less, read a few good books, spend some time coaching little league, finish the 5th edition of my book, write a few articles, visit with friends.

Have a safe, healthy, joyous New Year, everyone!

I still haven't decided.

Going to the National again for the first time since 1990 in Arlington.

Finishing T-207 would be great, but unlikely (need 49). I'll settle for the remaining two Pirates - also somewhat unlikely (Wilson, Donlin).

Beyond that filling various Pittsburgh E/T/D type-card holes (mostly all holes at this point) and working slowly on runs of backs for Pirates in T205,206, and 207.

Like many others that have posted, I hope to be in Chicago for the National. Won't be too hard since I'm only about an hour and a half south of Chicago, but I haven't begun to make plans yet.

As for cards, my goal for 2008 is to get to 50 different T206's. I have 19 right now, and I got all of them in about 6-7 months, so I think 31 more is a realistic goal for 1 year.

I am going to try to keep my focus on my tobacco Cubbies:
T205 (9 left)
T206 (8 left)
T207 (4 left)
type card examples in T222, T204, and T3

But I am also prone to blowing money on "cool" diversions, which often include the odd T200 card (NYN, Det, or Pitt), or higher-grade cards of Eddie Mathews, Campy, Banks or Aaron.

And, as I am perpetually obligated to mention: if anyone has any Lee Handley or Gene Handley items, please email me immediately!

Good luck to everyone and truly, Best Wishes for a happy and healthy 2008.

My collecting goals are as follows:

Knock my Phillies list down from 14 pages to 13 pages (might be very tough to do but I have made some decent progress this past year).

Continue T205 research...find a startingly cheap Drum and Hobby no stats (dreaming, I know).

Make progress on my low grade Diamond Star set.

Finish my T-80 Military subjects set (just a handful away).

I'd like to add more type cards to my collection...and a couple more HOF exhibit cards all in played with condition so I can buy more without breaking the bank.

Pre war:
E98, E99, E100, E103
Exhibit Cards of Walter Johnson, Geo Sisler, Jimmy Foxx and Jim Bottomley
1923 Exhibit Card
Kalamazoo Bat Card
T3, T202
Post war:
Glendale meats (one of the tougher ones like Ginsberg or Hoeft)
Mothers Cookie card of Chuck Connors
1977 Topps proof card with different photo than the regular issue

Best wishes for a Happy New Year to all the members and their loved ones!

Next year is my year...the Year of the Rat!

I'm with Paul and others; I need to focus. I have collecting ADHD. I have been realtively good about continuing to build my Colgan's collection but there is the occasional CJ, T207, S74, etc. that will de-rail me. My greatest distraction for collecting vintage baseball is vintage football and vice versa. I have grabbed many of the football items that have been on my football list for the last twenty years but the list always evolves and expands.

In hopes of 2008:

E254 Speaker, Waddell (Minn & New), Flick (Toledo) + any others I need

Football (really dreaming list) 1928 Star Player Paddy Driscoll, 1932 Packer's Walkers Cleaners Mike Michalske, 1934 Diamond Matchbooks of Link Lyman and Walt Kiesling

N162 Beecher (a matter of time...been saving)

My main goals this year are to knock as many back variations off the 33 WWG list as possible (down to 17 on the English only backs and 4 on the French/English backs) and finish the 41 Goudey (2 left) and Connie Mack All Stars (2 left).

Happy New year to all!!

Very realistic: Last 2 E77 (Gotch & Ketchel).
Somewhat realistic: Last 5 T9.
Slow and Steady: Exhibits and Zeenuts and Strips (oh my).
Here and There: Cool cards I really like.
Maybe: Smaller E-series.
Unrealistic: Focus and budget control.

Hmmmm....

Deadball goals are to get to 100 or more T206 cards in my developing set, including the remaining Young/Matty/Big Train cards I don't have yet. I may go after some E card types but will likely be unable to resist the urge to collect E93's instead.

Between the wars I want to finish my 39 and 40 Playball Dodger team sets. Debating if I want to go after the full 72 card set from 1941 but probably not if I start E93.

Postwar, if I may be so bold, fill in my 40's and early 50's Dodgers team sets and get a few tougher Topps types into my binders. Finish the easy 60's insert sets (just need a few).

I intend to get all of my reference materials in order as well, which is happening slowly but steadily.

That should do it-Happy New Year all!

It was a tough 2007 for me personally, as i unexpectedly lost
my only brother, this past summer.

What has transpired since that time, has been an awakening,
a time to reassess what is really important-- in all aspects of life, including hobby activities.

Out of this, come my hopes in the hobby, for 2008.

I hope that each and every interaction that i have with my
fellow hobbyists, is a positive one.

I hope that i can help bring a smile to the face of a fellow
collector, whether it be in the arena of buying, selling, or just discussing the hobby in general.

Indeed, i love vintage baseball cards as much as anyone, and have done so for about 40 years now.

These days however, i get as much joy out of hearing that a
fellow Board Member has finally acquired a favorite card, or perhaps the last card to complete a set, as i do when acquiring one of those favorites for my own collection.

That is what is important.

Yes, there will be some additions in 2008, but that is the least of my worries.
It will all take care of itself.

Happy New Year to All.

My hobby hopes are: to stay off ebay and show self discipline when it comes to spending money.
To enjoy The National with the group of friends that I go to it each year.
Enjoy reading the board and learning new things about the hobby from all of you great people.
Get the E98 Cobb to complete my set.
Get one more E98 with an Old Put back.
Enjoy Life, Family, Friends, Get Healthier, Calmer, and closer to God.
Have a terrifc year everyone!
