The only Newburg team photos I can think of are given a 52' date, but described the same as b/w and white auto. Issue is, the only one I saw listed was stated as 8x10.

Columbia City Collectibles states they may have a Mikan in inventory. Maybe ask for a scan and more info and they may have wrong measurements.

1952 would certainly be in the right time frame.

I believe a lot of those team issues are from 1951-52 season when they were at their height. I believe I have an autographed team issue in 8x10 jkst like that. Smaller ones like that are rare.

Thanks, Jason. I sure like the sound of "rare"! Any idea as to value?

Not sure. I did a cursory search of some of my items, but I can’t find an exact match. The problem with a lot of Mpls Lakers stuff is that they are almost all pretty affordable short of the Scotts potato chip cards and a few misc items. I think I might have something like that somewhere in my collection and I think I would have paid less than $50. Despite the rarity I don’t think they command huge prices. The thing I recognize is the stamp on the rear. Bottom line is I have no information for you. None of this helps I know. If I can figure it out I’ll post again.

FYI,
Dave Kohler in your area is a big Lakers collector including Mpls Lakers. You could email him and see if he has seen it before or has an interest. I have sold him stuff in the past at the National.

Matches up with Pollard’s photograph used in the 1952-53 Lakers yearbook. Probably the right year.

I’ll add to that. The yearbook is actually from 1950-51 season. I also found an interesting advertisement in the same yearbook. I believe the smaller ones were used by players for autographs. They are tough to find though.

So you could buy the photo in various sizes starting at 8 x 10. Explains the 8 x 10s.

I pulled the photo to take a look. It is postcard sized. My educated guess is team issue for fan mail response.

Per Mr. Kohler, it is from a 1950s Lakers team issue. He has a complete set including this one.
