Default 1900s Candy and Caramel Cards

I wonder if the caramel and candy cards make a comeback in the future? Their prices, to me, seem to still be a bit low relative to other assets cards. I remember back in the day I always liked the Doolan pose in purple. So upon restarting my current collection I had to have one. And it seems the purple e94s aren't quite as hot as they used to be.
Any other caramel/candy card stories or cards members want to show would be great.

I'm more of a T card fan myself but nice idea.

From Jefferson Burdick's collection:

My main E card interest is Zeenuts

Personally, I hope the prices continue to remain low for the next few years so that I can still afford them. I still have quite a ways to go on some sets. I also hope a few board members eventually are willing to give up some of the more difficult stuff I'm looking for.

I know I've posted this before and some of you may be sick of it by now, but I would really love to finish this set someday (at least the known players anyway).

I shared mine earlier but want to come back with a question. Leon (and anyone else who wants to interject), to what do you attribute the leveling off of the candy and caramel cards? I have only recently "discovered " them, and I am still finding out how vast the candy/caramel card universe is.

In collecting Wagner, I have come to really appreciate the caramels. I like the diversity of backs (like T cards) and the color variations - I want to do an E94 color run some day.

DJ, those red crofts are just totally awesome. To see one is something. To see all those together is simply amazing.

Speaking of E cards and Wagner, here is a picture Pat put together for me (I love looking at them in this form and please excuse the one T card).

Really cool display of Wagner cards...thanks for sharing! As I run across more and more of the unique sets and designs offered by the caramels, the more I want to grab as many different examples of backs and representatives of sets as I can. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to snag a megastar like Wagner everytime. I just think it would be cool to have a variety.

Have always loved the caramels. Feel these are two issues that have really dipped in value compared to what I think they should be.

Ryan, what no throwing collage?

Robert, In my opinion everything is cyclical. At this point, everyone seems to only want rare back T206 and is neglecting the fact that the more difficult caramel sets (E105, E104-3, E92 Nadja/Cocoa, etc) have such low pop numbers and simply don't come up for sale. Some of these sets might be somewhat easy to find a type card, but putting a set together is nearly impossible. Meanwhile, the easier sets (E93/E95/E96) might seem too easy to some with the internet and Ebay. I don't think the later E cards were ever quite as popular due to being B&W. Eventually I think the collecting community will realize how difficult some of the E cards can be. As evidence by the group trying to complete the E105 set, it is only going to take 3-5 collectors looking to build sets that will cause the rarer sets to have prices skyrocket again, but until than I'm happy to keep picking up some regardless of condition.

And my latest pickup from tonight to fill in my dirtbag collection

Good points. I don't think I would ever try and complete any of those sets. At most, I might pursue a player collection. I like Hal Chase's cards, but it's been done. Perhaps if I found a player who was a good one but not overly pricey and not already player collected by someone else, I might try that. More likely I would be just picking up a couple of examples of the Nadja/Cocoa backs. I also like the look of the different colored Crofts Candy backs. As much as I like some of the cards from the E93/95/96 sets, I don't want to spend the money it would take to complete those sets. I would rather sample others.

DJ, great pick up! I think you stole that one. Well done.

Robert, there are lots of very cool players that won’t break the bank. Bender and Evers are two HOFers with all sorts of E92 variations, and they tend to be reasonable for HOFers. In my personal opinion, I think the Magee card is one of the prettier ones out there, and he is a solid player with many variations (not my card)

Default Signed E95 Doyle

Very, very few signed caramels out there. This one is from the 2007 Pittsburgh Find. I love it so.

Thanks Ryan, I agree with Bender, and would add Collins as well to the HOFers that are reasonably priced, but kind of disagree with Evers. For whatever reason, some of the harder Evers caramel cards really seem to jump in price, if they even show up. For none HOFers, I like Davis with the sliding pose, Kleinow catching and of course Miller fielding (cue Pete's run).

Got the E101 over 20 years ago and still lament about selling it. But, the E92 helps me feel a bit better

People don't realize how difficult some of the E90-1 short prints are, even in mid-grade. As was already stated, everything is cyclical.

I love these cards! In addition to the Cobbs, Lajoie, and the Mathewson I posted earlier in this thread, I have also picked up other cards from the E90-1 set. They aren't exactly high grade, but I couldn't be happier with them. It has been great finding affordable, raw cards on our own B/S/T. It is fun to wonder who all has owned them over the last 110 or so years.

I think these are ripe for appreciation. Demand is cyclical which seems to have been lacking some for quite some time. Great cards shown by all. Thanks for sharing.

Nice Crofts Cobb. I was first with Cy, even if it wasnt Leon's now famous E90

The small size E candy have fallen in and out of favor over my collecting years, with the majority of the time remaining behind, sometimes far behind, the major tobacco card issues (T205, T206, etc.) in popularity and cost.

Thought I would show off a few more E91A/E91B cards, which have never been very popular, but have typically been mislabeled as 'generic' cards. Always a good chance to educate...here are a few samples with exact matches for facial likeness as seen on other cards of the same player.

And with Plank, you get a bonus image of another cool 'E' candy card (E95).

Great eye candy so far. My candy cards were such faves from the first collection I had to get some of them back!! And most weren't as cheap the second time.

Nice card Chuck!

This is my favorite E card (without a Wagner or Cobb on front)

Hi Barry - Did you go home yet?

The orange color background is the result of red ink laid over the yellow ink as is done on the Wagner card. What happened in cases like this when the intended background color was red?

So cool Pete. I really want to try a color run one of these days, specifically in an E94.

Always had a fondness for the Zeenuts with coupons. But I’m perplexed how you give a numerical grade and designate hand cut, with the coupon.
