Default T206 whitey alperman, please help me understand the psa pop. On this card!

I have been collecting high grade t206s for over 15 years, and i just stumbled on to something that amazes me. Whitey alperman in the current psa population Report has only 3 psa 7's, BUT 13 8's! Would love to hear some oppinions on this one. Thanks-kevin

PSA's population report breaks down T206 cards by the advertisment on the back. You have to look at all the different listings (for each back, and also "unknown" backs (meaning the card was graded prior to PSA differentiating the backs)), and add them up to get the total population of any particular card.

I have been emailed by a couple of members who have also said that this is a very unusual ratio. It almost seems impossible to me.

Someone probably kept cracking and resubmitting same card trying for a 9 and after a dozen tries finally gave up.

Default pops

i gave up using the grading companies pop reports quite some back because
they offer very little substantive data for reasons such as mentioned above.
At one time i thought they might be helpful as a 'cipher', giving me something of a generalized picture of what's out there. I now no longer think that is true.
congrats on your fine collection of T206s by the way.

best,
barry

Another rare interesting card i have is an sgc 86 rube manning. No psa 7's and 3 psa 8's, with none higher. Also, aside from my sgc 86, the next highest graded with sgc is only one sgc 80.
