I know I have seen one of these guys before but I can not place it? I'm thinking from the Old Judge set. The dark mount cabinet is the guy I know, I should know! HELP

looks a lot like Ed McKean. I'm not sure about the other player. Take a look at the VintageCardPrices.com site for some Old Judge McKean pics.

I thought the Brooklyn guy might be Yale Murphy but I don't think Murphy played for Brooklyn.

Try David Levin's site. Last time I checked his still had all of the Oregon Find N172s up plus the ones from his most recent find which is well over 1000 N172s.

but the problem is that most OJ's are action shots, not portraits, so it may be very difficult to get a positive identification.

I would try the Joseph Hall cabinets of Cleveland and Brooklyn. The faces are pretty clear and all players are identified.

That is a GR8 idea Barry. I still have not figured it out yet. I know I have seen the top player before in some issue. I want to say Just So but who knows? The top photo reminded me of a Police Gazette issue but I do not think I will be that lucky.

The site linked to above is interesting, as someone has put forth considerable effort to collect and share images. However, whomever did so really should give 100% credit to Lew Lipset as the text is copied verbatim from Lew's Encyclopedia. Also, as such, the listing is a bit outdated in that it doesn't include cards that have been added since Lew's book. For example, Lynch has 5 script cards, one being a Spotted Tie while the above link shows 4. Another minor point is the fact that some of the photos use later year issue cards when trying to share the 1887 issue etc.

Otherwise an interesting site that I have bookmarked. I have some of the missing images, is this owned by someone on the board?
