The Shoeless Joe thread -- gold, pure gold.

Had he just said a mea culpa after my original request to tone it down, this thread could've stopped at post 12.

Alas, where would the fun be in that??

WOW Marshall Barkman...That was awesome...Josh is a PC saint compared to that guy. What ever happened to him. Does he still go to shows?

Hi Tony,

Adam, in his brief time here, made quite a few posts of a similar nature, but this thread gives you a pretty good idea of how he was. Unfortunately I don't think any of the images are viewable anymore, but there was a series of 4-,5-, maybe 6-figure value cards in poor-fair condition posted in response to his comments about lower-grade cards. And if you make it through the second page, you get to his autobiography, such as it is, copied below for your reading pleasure.

Here is goes, I am 24 years old, (25 on November 3) I have been collecting since 1988. Here's A SAMPLE of what I have autographs of Mantle(Got 10 of em')Dimaggio, Williams, Maris, Ruth, Cobb, Wagner, Foxx, Fox, Jackie Robinson, Waner Brothers, Presidents Kennedy, Teddy Roosevelt, Truman, Bush 41, Mother Teresa, individual 8x10 photos signed by nearly EVERY CURRENT A-LIST hollywood celebrity that you could name. Oh yeah, I have a pair of boxing gloves signed by Ali, a puck signed by Gretzky, and a basketball signed by Jordan, NOW Do you want me to go into my card collection? I have over 50,000 cards and over 300 autographs. I just picked up on an autograph of Jack Norworth. He wrote "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" in case you did not know. TRUST ME, for my age, I have one of the most premier collections here in Iowa. IF you want I will even mail you a copy of the 1 PAGE hometown newspaper article I were featured in. "The Des Moines Register", April 5, 2003 edition. SHOW ME another 24 year old, who has the collection that I have! Oh yeah, I also have a pair of game-used cleats from Sammy Sosa ( currently on display at the Bob Feller Museum). TRUST ME, ONE DAY, MY FRIEND YOU WILL SEE THE MORAINE COLLECTION HIT THE AUCTION BLOCK. WHEN MY COLLECTION GENERATES HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, WE WILL SEE WHO HAS THE LAST LAUGH, AS YOU WILL STILL BE WORKING FOR A LIVING. I WILL BE RETIRED, YOUNG, AND WEALTHY LIVING IN AN ESTATE IN GREENWICH, CT, ONE OF THE MOST AFFLUENT COMMUNITIES IN THE ENTIRE U.S.

Best Regards,

Adam J. Moraine

Well, Adam had a job, is a father, pays taxes and his only time in court wasn't as a criminal defendant or witness in a grand jury testifying about his criminal activities -- this puts him ahead of half the senior members of Net 54.

I just wanted to thank all those who have spun this thread back to an enjoyable read.

Most of us are good guys after all, but some of those comments made me want to take another shower this month.

Pardon me as I'm just a casual observer. What, exactly, is the purpose of posting this? Do you feel better now?

This entire thread proves one point if nothing else. I think you girls need a few days off. May you all have a relaxing, happy July 4th weekend!

I've had to deal with Adam on Facebook. Not always enjoyable there either. He always complains about how no dealer wants to purchase his Mel Ott autograph.

But if you read the court decision, and I did.. he comes off pretty well. So, read the darned doc please

It was just a slice of life about him, nothing more, nothing less

Rich

Not sure where Moraine is these days, perhaps he is rich and retired in Greenwich CT, but three things pop out to me as amusing 10 years later..

1. Sammy Sosa GU cleats where probably not the best investment.
2. Amusing that he thought he could retire young and rich in CT with HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
3. He thought he was “investing”. For the amount he had already spent/invested on his collection in 2005, I imagine many of us could have invested that balance over the past 10 years in the market or other investment vehicles, and today would be sitting on a larger nest egg now then what his collection would have/has appreciated into. He failed to understand the simple concept of the cost of money.

…and if he is stupid rich now because if his collection, I take it all back.

I see that Adam was just as charming a few years after he was banned from this board:
