Been looking for this card for some time now and picked
it up from Tony's new website a couple of weeks ago.
(Thanks again Tony). March pick up thread was getting
a little long, so I thought I'd hold off till April.

Default Joss

That is a wonderful Joss. I have a low grade t205 Joss and it is probably my favorite card I own.

Yours looks great for the grade.

To get those three items, you must have sold quite a few shares indeed.

Matt,

That's cool! I've wanted to add this card to my collection
for a while now. Glad I was able to find it at the right price.
You'll be happy to know it's in good hands with no plans on
going anywhere for a long time!

well, considering my post went over like a lead fart, i might as well say now, that it was a poor attempt at an april fool's joke.

i guess we'll never be able to replicate the hysterics that Wonka's fake T206 Jackson provided 2 years ago...

Hey Michael- that looks like a real 1903 World Series stub to me. I think I missed the April Fool's joke too.

there are only a few of those stubs known to exist. from the first world series 1903. worth probably $25-30K+ (this was an image from an old auction).

i like the fact that i've built up my street cred over the years to such a level that nobody flinches when i "supposedly" drop $60K+ in one month on 3 pieces

Those three cards did strike me as rather pricey...I was trying to calculate in my head how many shares of Apple you would have needed to buy and sell to afford them.

Edited because I thought you said there were only three 1903 World Series stubs known...you just said there was only a few. That's fair.

Tony- I think it was April 1 , 2007. John posted that he was contacted by a family wishing to sell some T206's, and he put scans of them on the board. All were real, except for one that he photoshopped. It was a proof with no name on it, but it was a player in a Cleveland uniform that looked an awful lot like Joe Jackson. It garnered more than a little attention. But of course it was an April Fool's Day joke.

Funny day while many board members played it's an obvious April fools day joke, some of the very same were emailing April every few hours...which was me..

Also funny were the auction houses and sellers that emailed April...I really found out that day who was stand up and who was..well not so stand up.

Very funny day..thanks to Leon & Barry...who were there to help.

Would love to hear what happened, even if you kept the real identities hidden: "Seller X" and "Auction house Z".

i skimmed through it.. funny stuff.. at the risk of sounding retarded.. so the proof was a fake.. also the one that had the name was a fake? or was that a one off that someone has in their collection..? and pied 550.. was that part of the hoax...

skim reading leaves me with questions

Default 6 More E98s towards my master set

Picked up 7 more E98s towards the Master Set I am building. Lower grades certainly don't bother me! I love the vibrant colors! Thanks to a board member for these. As tbob mentioned in a recent thread, these sure are getting hard to come by....between Heritage and REA, I believe I only saw a measly 3 up for sale from both auction houses, 3 poor examples in a lot of 132 other cards 2 that aren't scanned are a Blue Kling PSA1 and an Orange Mullin PSA 3 that I picked up in the most recent B & L auction.

Default Thanks Tony

Thanks Tony, I appreciatte the compliment on my E98s. My entire collection of E98s are 10s, 20s, 30s,and 40s because those are the ones that I can afford, and that is perfectly alright with me! I don't post much, but the "Pick Up" thread is what I love about this board and our hobby: People getting to show off what they treasure about their collections. You see things on this thread every month that might be worth $10 to $10,000. or more. It is nice to see people passionate about their collections no matter how valuable or high of a grade they are. I really think most true collectors are like me in that they collect what they want and what they can afford. I try not to get caught up in threads that involve people bickering over which cards and collections are better than someone else's, because I feel that everyone's collection is special as long as it is special to the collector themselves. I collect what I know I can afford, making sure I still can afford to support my 4 kids, and I feel that my collection is the coolest in the world because it is mine. I also respect anyone who thinks that theirs is the coolest in the world because it is theirs. That's what collecting is all about to me: collecting what you want and can afford (My passion happens to be E98s) and talking baseball history related to your collection with others. Oh, here are my other 2 E98 pickup this month that exceeded the 5 scan limit of my last post.

Nice cards, Tim. I especially like that green Tenney. Never forget that in the E98s, an SGC 40/PSA 3 is not lower grade, it is a very substantial grade. Good luck on the master set!

Default Absolutely undeplorable actions by a fellow forum member!

A few months ago Jim Rivera, T206 back collector extraordinaire, appealed to me to sell him a couple of T211 Red Sun cards that he wanted to complement the Southern League "expanded" set he was building. I had them primarily as type cards and wasn't particularly attached to either one to the point that I wouldn't release them to a higher calling. I sold them to Jim at my cost and was content in the knowledge that I had helped out a fellow collector. That feeling was validated when Jim posted the link to his ImageEvent Southern League display and I could take pleasure in knowing that I had a small part in that spectacular collection. Fast forward to yesterday, the mail arrives with a registered surprise, contained within this beautiful card, one venerable collector helping out a T206 newbie put together a back collection. Thank you very much, Jim. That was a righteous thing you did.
