Default Paypal / eCheck question

Posted By: Rob Dewolf

I'm working with a seller on eBay on a Buy It Now, and he requests that I pay using an eCheck via PayPal. I've paid using a bank draft on PayPal before, and it appears this is pretty much the same thing except there's a 4- to 5-day delay until the money clears (whereas a bank draft is quicker). The seller requests an eCheck because his fee will be less (a flat $5), which I understand. Has anyone here used eCheck on PayPal who can give any input as to why it would be a bad idea?

Thanks, Rob

I've received it as a seller before and can't think of why it would be a bad idea for the buyer. It is sometimes used to scam a seller into shipping the item before the payment has cleared, but you are the buyer in this case.

You don't have your credit card protection. If you trust your seller there is not reason not to use the e-check.

I don't think there is any security difference between an eCheck or a bank draft; besides the fees on his end and the amount of time needed to clear. I know if you pay with a credit card with PayPal you at least can do a charge back if anything happens.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, unless he has low/bad feedback.

As long as you trust the seller, it's fine. I have used these e-checks numerous times, without any issues. My sellers' motives were the same as yours... less of a cut for PayPal.
