Default E96 Philadelphia Caramel staining..common?

Posted By: leon

Why is it I see so many E96's with the dirty looking staining on the back? This is my lone E96 but I have seen numerous others with this type of staining on the back of them. Was it a chocolate product these were inserted into, I wonder? Ideas?...regards

edited spelling....actually remembered before Barry said something.....

"Lone" E96.

Yes, E96's certainly look worse on average than E95's, so something changed in terms of how they were packaged (or the candy got a lot gooier).

I have a theory. These came out in 1910, Snickers were not invented until the 1930s. People had to eat caramel, chocolate, and nuts from separate packages, how barbaric. Inevitably people would get caramel on there finger tips where it would get transferred to the card when they opened the chocolate and removed the card.

My other theory involves nougat.

LEON

I don't have a back scan handy on my Connie Mack; but, I'm sure it has staining similar to yours on the back of it.
I can scan the back when I'm at home.

A freaking nougat conspiracy! Why is nougat the derivation of so much humor? LOL
