Default E90-2 Set Difficult?

Posted By: Ryan

Hello,
I am fortunate enough to have obtained a Wagner; be it in low-grade. I was wondering if anyone on the board could tell me how difficult and how much it might cost me to put together a set in authentic/low grade holders? Any that might give me trouble or what should I look out for? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Ryan

Minus the Wagner, a low grade/authentic set would probably take about $1200 to $1500 to assemble. Clarke will cost a bit more because he is a HOFer. Gibson, Adams, Leach, and Phillippe seem to command a slight premium based on popularity alone. I am not aware of varying levels of difficulty within this set.

When I assembled this set, I went through probably 5 Millers, but had a terrible time obtaining a Maddox. It took me a full year after getting the first 10 to find a Maddox.

I think John's price assessment is about right. If you have got the Wagner, the rest of the set should be relatively inexpensive in low grade. I don't think any individual cards are tougher than others, although my nemesis for the set was the Leach that took me well over a year to find. Other than Leach, I put the set together in about six months after I obtained a Wagner.

Default E90-2 Set Difficult?

This would be a nice set to go ahead and work on if you have that Wagner out of the way. All of them are available if you're patient and you could probably pick up a few as soon as this weekend if you put in a request on our BST pages. I never noticed any real difference in the scarcity of any of the cards. Clarke will be more expensive but not too bad. Phillippe may be a little more popular. The first time I put the set together, I found the Leever to be a tricky card and thought perhaps he was more popular since he's the only one on a pink background. However, when I was completing my set the second time, I had actually come across three Leevers in the process of doing so and I believe the final card I needed at that point was Wilson. The way I sort of look at the set now, is that if you've got the thousands to shell out on the Wagner and succeed in finding that card first, you're virtually "home free" on the other 10 cards. They're out there if you're patient.
