Default question on diamond star back ink

Posted By: ali_lapoint

are there premiums placed on different color ink backs in the diamond star set? i've read in the past that the blue ink backs are the toughest. is that true? i've also read on a few websites that cards 1-24 are green backed only, but i have an al simmons (#2) with a blue ink back so i don't think that information is accurate. anyone know anything about the backings of this set?

The SCD Standard Catalog lists the known backs for each card in the set, including your Simmons Blue Back, I suggest you look there.

Default question on diamond star back ink

Black Sox Fan,

That's a very nice article, but I am confused about one thing. In the article, you wrote: "In 1935, Nat’l Chicle put out cards 1-84. Cards 1-72 utilized green letters on the reverse but there were two versions of the remaining 12 cards." What are the "two versions" you were referring to? Thanks.

Paul

has all of the listed variations, certain low numbers with 1933 stats are by far the toughest. i just completed this master set and 1 number has an age variation on back. Dan

Default question on diamond star back ink

Posted By: Lyman

Ali, we have recently added a checklist for the Diamond Stars set to the Old Cardboard website at http://www.oldcardboard.com/r/r327/r327list.asp. It lists all cards by year (1934-36) and the color of ink used in printing the backs for each year. Hope this helps.

We are also planning a comprehensive article on the Diamond Stars set for the next issue of Old Cardboard magazine (Issue #17, Fall 2008). The article will include a full gallery of the base set and discuss its many variations. Issue #17 will be mailed around mid-October.

Happy Collecting,
Lyman

Does anyone know why they didn't include Ruth or Gehrig?

Default question on diamond star back ink

got one more question for you experts who have been so kind in my quest for information. speaking of my al simmons card, on the back the card has a copy right of 1934 but gives his stats for 1935. my traynor green ink back from 1935 has a 1935 copy right and lists his stats for 1934. do you happen to know if all of the blue backs re-printed in 1936 have 1934 copy rights because that was the original release year?

Sorry for the delayed response - I have updated the link to the xls spreadsheet...if you need it converted, lmk.

In response to the questions:
Paul - I meant that the remaining 12 cards are found with both the green and blue backs.

Ali- Have a look at the checklist from my post and see if that doesn't answer your question. Some cards are available with both color ink for the same year.

Black Sox Fan
