Default Baseball Card Shops in NYC

I will be in NYC next week from Thursday - Sunday for an annual ritual of meeting friends to watch March Madness. I wanted to see which card stores I should hit during my time in the city.

Thanks in advance.

Not much there. Alex's MVP is the only real one I'm aware of. Small shop on the UES. I've bought a ton of supplies from there, and they do have some vintage stuff. Another place is Brigandi Coins. They had a shop in midtown with some cards, autographs and other sports stuff. I think they switched locations and haven't been to the new one, but the other was a pretty cool shop to stop into--not a traditional card shop/collectibles place though.

Not sure about the outer Burroughs but could not find anything when I searched back when I was living there.

There's also Chameleon Comics near the WTC. They only really have modern boxes but a decent selection of them if you're in a gambling mood.

Chameleon Comics & Cards: 3 Maiden Lane, Financial District. OK, modest. Half comics, half cards.

Take the train to from Grand Central to White Plains and walk 10 minutes to the Westchester County Center show this weekend. That's what I'd do if I had a few hours to kill.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

and T206 - that's a great idea! I may just have to do that. I was not aware of the show this weekend. I did attend the January show.

Thanks again guys!

Do you know if the show is upstairs or down in the basement?

I lived in Astoria, Queens for three years right before I got back into collecting, and in my time there I never went to the Met to see this collection. Really wish I had now!

Thanks Michael. The upstairs shows are usually pretty good but the couple
of downstairs shows weren't worth the trip for me, There was very little
pre-war at the two or three downstairs shows that I went to.

If you have a car and head to Westchester fior the White Plains show there is American Legends on Central Ave in Scarsdale/Yonkers (same road where White Plains show is at the other end) of and Squiggy's Dugout in New Rochelle...

Funny...I'm flying in on Wednesday for the same thing and the added bonus of St. Patricks Day. Probably not convenient with your other plans, but if the White Plains show is that weekend, that would be your best bet. It's a great show. NYC is surprisingly barren when it comes to sports cards and memorabilia IMO.

I haven't yet been to it, but Brigandi Coins and Collectibles in Midtown looks nice with some really high end stuff. Not sure how big it is or anything but have some nice autographs and memorabilia and some cards on their Instagram page.

Erick- I remember it being small and expensive, but that was over 10 years ago...Looks like they just moved to E. 57th St. Give us a full report, if you go.

Default Nothing of note in NYC

There are no card shops of note in NYC.

If you are looking to buy baseball cards this is not your town.

Alex MVP is now basically just a comic shop

Briganti is really for the coin and paper money crowd

Gotta Have It is very expensive high end memorabilia (think of items like Bob Dylan's High School Yearbook) he does have a T206 Wagner in the shop... it is PSA Authentic - Altered

I worked construction in NYC and anytime I had a job in the area I would visit Briganti. They always had some cool baseball memorabilia and signed items. Although its been awhile since I've been there if you look on their website it looks like they still carry some nice pieces.
Have fun. NYC is a great place

Default clarification

while i did state that Briganti is more for the coin and paper money collector, they do have a nice selection of signed baseballs and a good amount of high-end cards... but you will not get a low price.

Disappointing to hear about Alex's MVP. Before it moved (and I moved) it was a block from my house, so I went every other weekend for supplies and to look around. Only ever really had one card I needed and didn't get it as I didn't want to buy the full set for one card, but it was cool looking around.

Agree it's not a baseball city though. I'm assuming rents too high for shops to last because there has to be interest there given the strength of its sports fans.

Alex MVP I recall for 3 reasons back around 1999: 1) he gave me decent prices for old Yanks/Dodgers/Giants cards 2) he sold me, then quickly took back, an ungraded Duffy Mayo Cut that I determined was fake 3) he went over to his furniture shop and dug out some prized cards, including a 1914 CJ Marquard, ungraded, could have been reprint, that I took a chance on and paid $200. Later sold it as PSA NM for $4400....
