4 Days to go.

What we have done in the past is show some of the photos we would love to have painted.

I am curious, who would be the most popular subject to paint. Many I know would love to own a Gehrig or a Christy, Ruth or Cobb.

Are they still the favorites.

It would be interesting to know who would be the most popular.

So who is your favorites. I know it would be hard to choose just one, so Choose three sport figures you would like to see on canvas hanging up in your mancave.

For me, my top three would be;

Kaline
Greenberg
Probert (hockey, adding something different)

If I hit this lottery I will be doing a Giant as well.
I am leaning toward John McGraw,
With Bresnahan, Mathewson, and Posey as a possible.

^^^^^^^ That's a wonderful image ^^^^^^^

Can something like that be done in 16" X 20"?

Glad I popped in to see this. I'll be in for a few chances for sure.

Two questions:

•What if say 270 chances are sold? Would each $20 entry get three numbers (270x3=810) with the remaining numbers (811 & up) deleated?

•Also, what if 250 chances are not sold? Will there still be a smaller painting done, say 9" x12", or will everyone's money be refunded?

Paul, I'll let Bill handle those questions. Though I think that if the 250 number isn't reached, the event won't go through. And since no money is to be exchanged until the number is reached, no refunds would be necessary.

Mark, agreed - a great image. It would definitely have to be larger than 16" x 20", though. With a full body, people in the dugout and some of those stands, it would have to be at the minimum around 20" x 28". 24" x 34" would probably be pretty perfect.

Paul,
Sorry for the late response. Had a busy day today.
Graig is right, we want everyone to hold onto their payment, until the 250 number is reached. I do not think there will be any problem.
You are right about the 270 entries, everyone would get three chances, then any number higher then 810, would be void. But we will stop at 250, if the sales are slow when the 250 is attained.
If there still is a strong interest when we reach that 250 number, then we will let it go. So if we go past 250, it will be much higher then the 270.
I WANT TO SAY THIS, THAT IF WE DO GO PAST THE 250 NUMBER, A HARD DATE AND TIME WILL BE SET, IMMEDIATELY, PROBABLY A WEEK AT THE MOST, SO THIS WILL NOT DRAG ON.
At $30 per entry, we had a hard time trying to reach 250 entries. But at $20, we should have no problems, with the interest already shown, should get us past the 250 entries, and fairly fast.
Because of the open back end for entries sold, I cannot issue all your numbers, immediately, as before. I do not know what the final number is going to be, and that final number is what will determine the numbers for each entry. So it is kinda exciting this way, because you do not know for sure, what your numbers are going to be until the last entry is sold. Just the first number I issue will remain the same.

Paul, thank for the questions, and your response. Good luck.

Bill

What a great photo. If we sell some 300 or so entries, there might be a chance that could be done, but Graig would have to answer that one. If not, If we sell 300 for $6000, just a small additional amount may be enough to get er done.
I really like that.

Paul,
On the first question, we will try to get it as close as possible to an even division of 1000 to minimize the number of unclaimed numbers (ie 250, 333, 500), but yes, if 270 entries are sold, numbers 811 through 999 and 000 would all be voided. With that many voided entries, the likelihood of having to select multiple games to find a winner goes up, but it still works out even if it takes multiple games.

If the total doesn't reach 250, as Graig said, the event doesn't happen, no money is sent, Graig continues working on other commission work that actually pays the bills, and the rest of us go home for a good cry.

Denny,
Yes, you can buy as many entries as you want right out of the gate. Since we do not have an upper limit of how many entries are sold this time, it didn't make sense to have that initial cap as we have had previously. The more entries there are, the bigger the prize gets, so the more the merrier I say!

Bill,
That is a Tuck postcard that I own. Just one of my thoughts about this drawing. Probably would wind up choosing sports but just wanted to check this out with Graig.

Hey Richard,

Though it's a pretty cool image, I don't know if I'd be excited enough about the piece to do it justice. I'd most likely prefer to stick to something more...er...sporty.

I think if there was a better shot of him that had a bit more of a connection to a specific sport, I'd be more inclined. That famous shot of him sitting in the chair looking like a pugilist (http://assets.fightland.com/content-...456/teddy3.jpg) would be great. I mean, I know he loved baseball, but I think for me, some sort of visual connection needs to be there.

As ridiculous as it may sound, something like this could even work:

(And for the record, I'd LOVE to paint Mr. Met.)

It would not be possible for this Mets fan to have a painting which included a Washington Nationals uniform in my apartment.

Dewey,

There's plenty that gets it going! I LOVE painting some of the more obscure/lower-tier Hall of Famers and other roleplayers, that's for sure. As much as I love painting Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, I'd probably kill to paint people like Hughie Jennings, Fred Tenney, Eddie Mathews, and really, I could on and on and on in terms of players.

I also really love interesting shots from the Deadball Era - be they action, or even seemingly mundane. There's just an intensity to those guys that is super appealing. The enclosed are prime examples of that.

But seriously, I'm pretty much in love with the idea of painting anything related to baseball.

My all time favorite photo composition wise is one of Ken Williams. I can't find my copy, but I know Graig has it stored somewhere. I am not sure I would be able to not do another Gehrig, if I won, but I know I would want a print of it, if someone does get it done.

Do you have you have a copy you can post Graig? If not, I'll find mine later and post it.

Ruben, though a great image, it wouldn't work with a 16" x 20". A full-body shot like that would have to be about twice that size. Which of course you can upgrade to if you win!

Graig, Could you do the 1958 Topps Mossi card.
I'd actually buy that from you regardless if I win lol. Want it behind my desk at the office.

24 hrs and 20 minutes to go before we kick this off.

I just got a scary weather forcast. High wind warning for Sunday from 2PM to 11 PM. If I loose my internet, I will be highly ticked off.

In Northern Michigan, we use a dish for out internet, and it does get interrupted from time to time. We will have some sort of plan in place'

By the way, I posted this box score form the last two raffles.

Cards Side............................2
Memorabilia Side..................0

Ugly box score.

10 HOURS TO GO.

A reminder, I will be opening a new thread at 8PM EST, here on the memorabilia side. Once the thread shows up, entries can then be purchased.

So this photo would be a no-go? How much would an upgrade cost if total reaches ~250?

On the very slim chance my single entry wins could I get the same monetary value in the 5 x 7 studies? I think they are simply amazing and would love some portraits of my favorite player(s) in the different hats/uniforms he/they played in. Not that the full size paining isn't cool but not really my thing. Yes I am weird.

Dan,

We'd definitely have to go a bit bigger than 16" x 20" to make that one work, though not necessarily a hell of a lot bigger. If you'd like, PM/email me and I can let you know what it would cost for some different sizes.

Graig,
Why does a shot like Dan's not fit into a 16x20 format. Why won't it work? Is it because you can't do justice to detail? I'm no artist and am just curious. Thanks.
Gary

Gary,

For starters, since the dimensions are a bit different than 16" x 20" on Dan's image, it would have to adhere to those proportions. That's mainly because of the nature of his photograph, with two full figures. So, if he wanted to stay with 16" wide, the height would have to be around 25".

The general size I think is still a little too small there, as everything would just seem too compressed. Additionally (and more importantly), I'd need more room to get the kind of detail that I'd like to, especially with the full figures and suitcases. It doesn't have to be all that much larger to do the trick - 18" x 28" or 20" x 32" would make a very large difference for me to work on (and for the viewer).

Hope that makes some sense. If not, just say so!

G
