Is that a d311 baseball card? The black type on the back looks too dark?! I have no clue what the stamp is though.

I think that says Ballplayers.

D311s should soak well. Is that scrapbook paper over the back, or is that where the surface of the back has been torn?

It looks like extra paper because where the paper runs to the border of the card there appears to be jagged extra paper beyond the outermost border of the card. Soak it, and we will see.

Wow, that is great. Be very careful in soaking the paper off. It looks like one of the PCL clubs held a dance and women were admitted free. Amazing. Looks like the club used D311 cards which were then hand stamped by the club for admission.
Let us know what you find out!

Might narrow the search down a little if we knew who won the PCL title the year these cards were released. Any of you PCL junkies out there know the answer? (Too lazy to google it)

It is for the a ball given at the end of the 1911 Season. I will try to scan the back I have so you can see the writing better.

The card looks hand-cut from a larger piece - perhaps some sort of display or multi-card promotional piece for the advertised event given to fans. The overstamp is larger than the card, and there probably was more info provided.

Mine is trimmed as I believe this one is, but the stamp would have fit well on the full sized card.

In 1911 when the D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit set was issued, the Portland Beavers finished 1st just 2 games ahead of the Vernon Villagers.

Interesting that another was found and that the ink is blue, not red. Obviously both are trimmed which makes you wonder if they were indeed trimmed from a larger sheet which also begs the question whether the cards were trimmed prior to the stamping or the trimming occurred after the cards were stamped...

I really doubt they were stamped after they were trimmed. If you look at the printing on the trimmed sides it has been cut off by the trimming. I don't see a reason why someone would trim the cards down to a smaller size than the stamp prior to stamping it.

It is my belief that normal cards were stamped instead of an advertising display. Both of the overprinted cards shown have scrapbook residue on them so they could have been collected by the same person who trimmed them down before putting them in a scrapbook.
