Default LEON.....What's with the Double-Spaced lines when editing ? ?

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis

Much more aggravating than the "Internal Server Error Messages" is the

insertion of Double-Spaced lines when one happens to edit his post.

Also, upon editing there are instances where "YOUR NAME" disappears, and if you didn't notice this

you become "ANONYMOUS"

PLEASE have this problem corrected in the EDIT function

Edited to put Ted's name back in the header

Ted- I had a long list of T205 for sale on BST. Every time I sold one, and went to delete it, I had to reconfigure the entire list. I can't tell you how much time I wasted doing this. It's been a problem for awhile.

Thanks for chiming in on this "edit problem".

I know exactly what you are saying, as I recently had to edit a minor typo on a post of mine that had a 100+ card listing.

It was tedious editing out double-spaced lines for 100+ times.

Perhaps, if more of us post complaints about this problem....LEON will get it resolved.

I spoke with leon about it about a month ago when it started happening - he said that he'd let the tech guys know but because it wasn't a critical issue and just an annoyance, they probably wouldn't prioritize it.

Barry/Ted:

There is a workaround for editing long lists (or anything else) while the double spacing problem persists. Copy the original message before you hit edit, then once in edit mode delete what is there and paste in what you just copied. Then you can edit as normal, just delete the two extra lines at the start of the message. If writing a long post, copy the text occasionally as I have had it all disappear if I time out on Net54, unrecoverable even by going back on the browser.

Now, I wish editing when there are JPG links was easier, anyone have a workaround for that?

(I just did it when editing this message, worked like a charm.)

Dave, that is a great way to sidestep the problem. And I'll try that for the time being. Especially on long posts. A short 2 line post can be fixed with a strategically placed 'delete', or left with an extra line or two.

But your cut and paste approach doesn't eliminate the problem. Something needs to be done.

TED- You really don't need to capitalize my name. I can read it just fine when written normally. This is still an issue and I don't see an automatic fix to it as of right now. I just took 5 seconds and deleted the spaces in your original post. If you need to know how to do it let me know.

Barry- It really can't take more than a few minutes, at most, to fix a whole lot of posts. Sorry for the issue.....I wish I had a magic bullet or more folks were supportive of a board change. I don't and they aren't. regards

I'm a great "cut & paste" guy; and, I've been doing exactly that as of late on my edits.
But, as FRANK says....it should be unnecessary....Leon's guys should have attended to
this when it was first brought to their attention a month ago.

I would say this issue has been a problem for at least 2 months, but I deal with it the best way I can

Enjoy the Super Bowl everyone!

None whatsoever was intended by capitalizing your name. It is a habit I have of doing,
without any intended inferences.

Come on, you have to give this 70-year old dude a break happy.gif

I don't know what's more annoying: magic tape or having to delete extra lines on a post.

The hobby's going to hell in a handbasket.

I can always count on some humor, at least. Thanks guys. And I wish they were "my guys" but they aren't. I assure ya'll that everything I say I see in the tech support forums is really there. I agree there are some minor issues. I think they are more annoying then they are show stopping. Should we take another vote on changing hosts? I think it would be the same overwhelming "No, we don't want to change" that it has been the other times we voted. I could force the issue but there is usually a strong aversion to those kinds of things......Ya'lls call...

Given how receptive to change this board is as a whole, I look forward to a new host/platform being implemented within a month.

Thanks for the suggestions on how to sidestep the problem.

Leon- it does take only a minute or so to reconfigure, not a big deal at all if you do it once. But I think I did it twenty times. If you go back to that sale you can see how many times I had to edit. Minor issue, but it would be nice if they fixed it.

I agree with you. I wish it were fixed. I also wish there was support to change to a new host but there isn't. I understand, more than probably anyone, about the small annoyances of our s/w. I go back and edit posted scan sizes many times, most days. I also help when I see the spacing issue....though if I were very vigilant it would be a full time job.

Is it time to readdress upgrading the software? Maybe you will get a more receptive audience this time.

Dang Leon! I want my monthly membership fee refunded!

Guys, I am sure he is on top of it. Thanks for taking care of a great site. It's nice to have a free forum along with a Buy/ Trade/Sell venue. I have made some great contacts, picked up alot of knowledge, and made some great trades, buys and sales as of lately thanks to net54. While it can be a pain, I find it easier just to copy and paste changes and repost. Also I have to deal with not getting to post alot because of AOL. It is something I have learned to live with to enjoy the site!

Thanks,

Jason

Just an fyi. It's not upgrading "this" software it's going to another whole site that would be the solution. That would mean we would probably lose ALL of our archives. While I am for a change I am not sure the benefit outweighs the negative repercussions. Although I sort of "lead" the board I would say, more often, it leads me. If I make an unpopular decision it causes chaos. I have enough chaos in my life to not try to cause anymore. At least with Net54 we do know what we have...though, I admit, it can be a pain in the rump sometimes.....

btw,- Dan B- thanks for stopping that political thread. I am not sure if it's been 3 days but I think I warned of a banning if another one was started in that time frame. I am fairly lenient though and doubt HR meant harm....

You know the obvious solution is to sell like 3 to 10 cards at a time. I see people put up like 100 to 200 cards sometimes which is ok but then do not complain if it becomes tedious. I do enjoy some of the OT posts so hopefully folks don't get you to upset Leon.

Given that we would lose the archives, it's not worth the switch. Didn't realize that. Maybe the software will be fixed down the road.

We can back them up, that is no problem. Extracting them and making the information accessible could be a huge undertaking though. WE have been with this host since about Sept 2001....so there is a lot of data here....regards

Leon - if they can be backed up to file, I'd be happy to help importing them to a new host.

Perhaps we could try and see how time consuming it will be? In the past I think that has been the main issue in people opposing a move - if we can move the archives over then it might make sense.

Barry- I just had a discussion with my lawyer and due to the extremely egregious issues, and pain and suffering you have endured, I am going to refund all of your Net54 membership fees. Hopefully that will take some of the sting out of the aweful mess we have here. take care

Leon, as Barry's lawyer I insist that you also refund all BST fees; otherwise you can pound sand.

Barry, I frown upon clients getting too involved in these sort of sensitive negotiations but since your plan will drive up my contingency fee I'm all for it. However, as Leon's lawyer as well I must say that I'm very disappointed with your intransigence on this issue.
