Default Any opinions on this card being genuine?

I see some red flags with the snow white borders and color looking "öff" but I wondered if anyone else had an opinion? The bidding has been sporadic and the card is at around $250, a lot for a reprint but a tiny fraction of what this card is worth if real. Seller says absolutely no returns but believes it is genuine. Lots of red flags, although 100% feedback on ebay. Listing number 200965244817. Sorry I can't make links on my laptop. E95 Matty in CSA 8.5 holder. Looks NM.

My first thought at first glance is reprint but I am no expert.

Red Flags = probable fake.

Very much agree with Jeff! Isn't that the same grading company as the Cobb/Edwards Wagner??

Wouldn't you think if you were making a fake card you would at least spell his freaking name correctly?

The grade and the CSA holder would be enough to be a major red flag that something is very wrong. By comparison, PSA doesn't show any Matty E95's above a "7" in their population report, and that one sold for over $14K.

There are some deals to be found on eBay, but not 99 percent off what a card of an inner circle HoFer is worth.

I think it is a reprint. In the "Matthewson" the "w" seems to be below the "e" in the reprint and much less so, if at all, in the real card. Also, the comma appears different.

Gentleman, Let me start by saying that I've seen this card before. imhistOp, the color's are all wrong, All of them. Matty's belt loops are way to dark which brings the color of his entire uniform into question.

"it's a CSA fake", & they should be ashamed of themselves for slabbing it!

But what to I know... I've been playing with Electrons for the past 35 years ;-)

Hi tbob,
Sorry, I didn't know that. Oh well, that's not the first stupid post that I have made.

Thanks,

The auction also looks like it is getting shilled pretty severely. The current high bidder has 27 bid retractions in the past six months. There is also an underbidder with 11 bid retractions in the mix.

It's odd how the back of the card looks like a slightly worn e95 card might look. But the slightly worn back isn't consistent with the pristine front.

Just looking at that card the height to length ratio looks "off". It looks too wide to be a real E95 unless the scan somehow stretched it.

Also, I'm thinking of flipping my E95 Matty SGC 10... it could probably be a CSA 3

It's an obvious reprint. There is zero chance of the card being authentic.

Apparently, an image of an authentic E95 Mathewson was used but the card was a little short for the template for the copy/reprint so a little extra white border was addded at the top, which was a different shade from the original border color.

Well, looks like someone did get duped to the tune of $1,091.00.

Oh and don't call me Shirley.

p.s. That joke is a lot funnier when its not in textual form.

I am going to guess the seller didn't know what he was doing. But in looking at the auction again, isn't it kind of strange to have your picture (I assume it's the seller) as your avatar on ebay?

"We only sell high end cards and literally have never had a complaint about the cards we have sold."

They are about to get one
Wonder what ebay will do this? It clearly says in the guy's ad that all graded cards are absolutely no returns, selling as is, if something is wrong with the card, take it up with the grading company. Yet ebay will force a seller to return the money if something is counterfeit, fraud etc.
Guy's feedback is 100%...
This will be interesting to watch...

Since EBay doesn't seem to care about buyers making bid retractions, has anyone considered making a large bid that is shilled up and them making there own bid retraction right before the 12-hour limit? That way the shiller gets stuck paying the EBay fees.
