It looks real to me, but then again if you look at his other auctions he has one of those Ruth pinbacks that are always sketchy.

Well...that answers that. I had never seen this pin before. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230175865922&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013

It was definitely real, just in bad shape due to excessive foxing. That particular pinback design (just the pictured socks) originates from the 1920's, but it's possible it made an earlier appearance for the White Sox last period World Series title in 1917.

I'll check Muchinsky's book tonight and see if there's any info on the pin.

I don't have my Muchinsky book handy, but I'm guessing it's not in there since Mike has the book also. Plus I think it was Muchinsky who won this pin.

I was just looking at all the pins he's won. What a collection he must have. I particularly enjoyed the Providence flag stick pin. What a beauty!

If there is a button I'm interested in, I always check his book to see if it's in there. If it isn't you can pretty much be assured he will win it with a snipe at the end. Every once in awhile I will throw in a crazy bid but it just raises the price he has to pay.

You are correct on all points. He didn't have an example of the pin in his book. He pays very high prices for his pins. I would appear that money isn't an issue, nor is the subject matter. How can they say it's a 1917 pin?

You're right---it might be a 1906 pin
