Default 1969 Pittsburgh Sports Hall of Fame

Found this out of print book. Was published by a local Pittsburgh printer who also happens to be the illustrator of the book.

A few short years, Pittsburgh would be Chanpions in baseball (1972) and football (1974-76). The baseballc section is outstanding from Honus Wagner to Roberto Clemente. As you can see, some great Negro Leagues are covered along with golf (Palmer), hockey (Hornets) and boxing.

Default Harvey Haddix 1959 near perfect game original photo

I just picked up this great action photo of Harvey "The Kitten" Haddix's near perfect game.

Arguably the greatest game ever pitched, Haddix pitched 12 games of perfection before allowing the 1st hit in the 13th inning in Milwaukee, eventually losing the game to the hometown Braves.

Earlier this week I finally completed my quest to obtain press passes for all of the 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates post season games. I spent five years searching for examples I wanted in my 1971 Pirates collection. My goal was to pick up one example from Three Rivers and Candlestick for the NLCS as well as press passes to Memorial Stadium and Three Rivers for the 1971 fall classic. The green pass is fun because Game #2 of the series played in Baltimore was postponed by rain. I believe the water stains are from rain drops.

I also have ticket stubs to all of the 1971 post season games as well, with the exception of Game #1 of the NLCS played in San Francisco. If you have one and are willing to move it please let me know.

Default 1939 Goldsmith Uniform swatch catalogue featuring Johhny Vander Meer

Unusual Goldsmith uniform swatch catalogue pickup from MLB's centennial year 1939 featuring Johnny "Double No-Hit" Vander Meer on back cover.
Pretty cool!

Just curious, vintage equipment specialists, how challenging are these to find? I had never seen one...

Dang it, Scott! Guess you wanted it just a bit more than me

FWIW, it's the first one that I've seen, but I've only been watching eBay for old Goldsmith catalogs for a little over a year.

Fair enough, and not a huge deal. I'm mostly after old catalogs for the info/pictures of the balls anyway, but thought that one was really interesting. Had I known you were bidding on it as well, I'm not sure if I would have backed off or run you up higher

This one came in today. I have been taking a break from news photos lately but had to have this one. I hadn’t ever seen this 1922 image of Babe Ruth and his daughter prior to picking this one up on eBay. I have three beautiful daughters of my own and perhaps that is what drew me to this picture. Nonetheless I thought it was a very pretty picture and the $40 BIN price tag made it irresistible for me.

Default 1897 J.F. Hillerich & Son Zebra Striped Bat

I actually picked this up a few months back but just received the "official" word today from Hunt Auctions. Hunt handles all appraisals for the Louisville Slugger Museum and I was referred to them by museum staff.

Period stamping gave me a date range from 1897-1911 however, when comparing it to my 1911-16 model bat, I felt pretty confident that it was one of the first bats produced by Hillerich and was steering more towards 1897. After analyzing, they too agreed and further provided the Zebra Stripe info as I was not familiar with it myself.

Pretty cool piece of history

Mariano Rivera used wristband from the 2006 All-star game. Person I bought it from said he received it from Rivera before the night was over. According to the seller, he sat in the bullpen area for the game and showed me his all access badge from the game. So pretty sure it's legit...

Rivera can be seen wearing two wristbands before the game but when he came in and pitched he was wearing none.

That's the best Dickey photo I've ever seen - I wonder what one of those Yankee jackets would go for at auction?
