is finding Long Island anything like trying to find Long Lake in MN? Last I remember, there are over a dozen lakes in MN with that name, so if you ask someone from MN if they live near Long Lake, chances are, they do

I grew up on Long Island and have a house there now. Even Brooklyn is technically the western part of the island, so I can say I've lived my entire life there. Very beautiful area but many problems too.

Note: while the promoters have stated that SGC will do on-site grading, I contacted SGC directly, and they are not planning to do so. They may grade cards if you pick up the following day, but that was not certain either.

No Jay, NY is simpler. There are only three islands (recognized major islands, that is). Of course there is the one which we got for beads: Manhatten. And yes, the Long one. And the isle of Staten, the compliment to Queens; ie. Kings.

Since I to am considerably technologically challenged here, Barry; let me add this experiment. I think that the formula for the smiley emotocon is as follows:
COLON, CLOSE PARENTHESIS
No space between them.

Long Island is actually composed of Brooklyn and Queens...2 parts of NYC and the suburb counties of Nassau and Suffolk. The show is in Nassau County.

I believe Frank that the chronology will reveal that the Bronx and Queens are the bouroughs which were originally used as the dumps for garbage generated by Brooklynites and those from Manhattan.
As those swamp areas were filled, people began living there. Subsequently Nassau and Suffolk as well as Staten Island became the dump for New York. Now people are living there too.
However, where Long Island actually starts depends significantly on the age of the New Yorker you are speaking with. The newbie will cite the geographical/political demarcations, the old timer will think of where the garbage was dumped.

Gil, if you have the time, check the history of Long Island a bit more carefully. I live in Nassau County. My town...Manhasset...was founded in 1680. Our town was one of several on Long Island which broke from the Tory Township of Hempstead in 1777 and supported the American Revolution. If not for Manhasset's sacrifices, you might be a subject of the Queen today.

Frank- I grew up in Cedarhurst, a bit south of you but not very far. Finished college at C.W. Post, spent many days on 25A heading through Great Neck, Manhasset, etc. Great area.

Well you got one thing right, you should be sorry. If they have a library in that California swamp town of yours, check out the Onderdonks of Manhasset and the key role they played in the Revolution.

I guess we can all throw away our history books and ask the Crooked Mile lawyer about what happened in the past. I had heard you were an old dude, but I never realized you actually knew George Washington.

I can help you with that. The LIRR originates at Penn Station in Manhattan. There are several major roads going into LI, the most prominent the Grand Central and Long Island Expressway. But since I neither know where the show is or where you are coming from, these directions aren't accurate. But if you fill me in I might be able to help you.

I was more joking then anything...I'm sure I could figure it out if I really applied myself. The LIRR has always been a bit mysterious to me though, and that's after 15 years in Manhattan. Thanks for the neighborly gesture offering help though. You must havea stockpile of karma points from all the selfless offers of help you bring to this forum. It's always impressive.

This was a simple thread about attending a card show and you have turned it into an attack on the origins of my home and the role of LI in the Revolutionary War. I think you should take your head out from your ass and leave.

I probably would have bet against that because of the costs to transport waste that distance and the fact that Ca.has some of the stiffest environmental regs in the country.

But much of that is stupid because a large percentage of hazardous waste can be used as a fuel.

Hofstra University (just down the road from the Nassau Colliseum if you are not familiar with Hofstra's location).

As far as local shows it is a decent one (better than White Plains IMO)... but of course not in the same league as the Philly Show.
