The internet age and the burst bubble of "new" cards leaves us with no local card shops and no more local card shows. I miss meeting all you folks personally - maybe I should do a National show. What are your ages, what do you specifically collect, where do you live. I just want to get a fix on the market demographics.
1. Am 41 years old
2. Live in Portland, Oregon (very few vintage folks in Pacific NW)
3. Collect only EX 5 or better PRE-war major, 1st tier HOF'ers. No sets, just a way cool mix of nice stuff - just can't get into the 4 grade and lower. Steve.

Ed McCollum

44 years old.

Art Director for nation-wide non-profit provider of services to the developmentally disabled.

Started collecting Topps at age 9, and have complete sets every year since. Vintage is T206s only, with about 170 total, but all 15 of the different backs (not counting Ty Cobb). Wife hates baseball, son doesn't care much for it either, so this is my place of escape.

Mostly T206 but I'm straying into caramel issues more and I'd really like to pick up more cabinets and RPPC. I'm also looking for my first T3 if anybody would like to help.

Forgot to add that I'm big on Rube Waddell items.

Collect T206 (missing big three and two others), Pre-War HOF type set, and anything else that I think is cool (that is what always gets me in trouble). Have collected since a kid in late 1940s/early 1950s. However, amost everything I now collect is graded.

I am 38 yrs. old, married and one daughter. I live in southern Indiana and collect HOF players from 1957 and earlier. Favorite set is the 1914 Cracker Jack and I am just now getting into some caramel issues such as the 1932 US Caramels. I try to buy EX or better but will settle for lower grades in pre-war cards.

My name is Zach Rice. I am 17 years old and live in Columbus, Ohio.

I collect the E106, T210-2, T209-2, and F-Unc Voskamp's sets. I used to collect members of the hall of fame and then started to type card collecting. Going through and collecting both ways made me realize that I was really meant to be a set collector and I enjoy it. I also try to add one rare 19th century item (cabinet, card, etc.) to my collection every year.

I am 35 and have been collecting since I was five. I am married with a three year old daughter and 10-month old son. We live in the Cleveland area. I got into vintage baseball and football in the early 80's and have never stopped (little bit of a slowdown from about 16 to 22). I have no focus but if pressed would have to say E254's, T205's, and Dietsche's are my favorite baseball issues. I spend about half my time/$ on vintage football items.

Mike Campbell

53 years old ( It looks worse in print)

Retired Commercial banker with US Bank Corp. (Was with Wells Fargo before that.)

Now President of my own investment company

married to my high school sweetheart. No kidding, she is the best !!!!

Two great kids, who are finished with college. And have moved out. YEAH!!!

Live in Suburb of Minneapolis

I started collecting when I was 5. I still have thousands of my cards from late 50's and early 60's. stopped in about 6th grade or so. Puberty set in I guess.
Started again in about 1988.

I have a little bit of everything. 204's,205's, 206's, 207's. Some Ruth, some Gehrig, some Hack W. But by far my focus is collecting "anything having anything to do with Jimmie Foxx". My goal is to get every card of his, including variations. I figure I am half way there. Some very tuff issues. I have the only 1931 W502 that PSA has graded. Many others like that. I have a sterling silver award he was given. letters. etc. etc.

Thanks to all the forum members who have contributed to my collection efforts. I'd be interested in gathering with any fellow collectors from Minnesota. Beers are on Me!!

Jeez - I thought I would get a lot of the 50+ year old crowd - good to see vintage is strong with younger folks who must read up on baseball history. Also thought a lot would be from east coast, not so, but pacific NW crowd is weak. JimB - fellow Portland, Oregonian, I'm outa Canby (503)544-4408

1. 57 years old (immaturity clashing with senility - it's a bitch), retired Land Surveyor, married to Jeannette, a wonderful, beautiful, cheerful woman who thinks T3s cost "around ten dollars" , no kids. I have been a Giants fan since 1883.
2. Resident of Honolulu, Hawaii since 1992 (have lived in five states and three provinces of Canada).
3. Started by collecting fifties Topps sets (favorites are '53 and '57), worked backward in time to '41 Playball, DStars and 1933 and '34 Goudey and Sport Kings, thence D304s. Collect any Matty, Joe Wood and HR Baker cards I can and also any card that I like the look of. Am currently working on a T3 set and then I am going to swear off set collecting just like I did after the D304s.

Hello to everyone on the board that's newer than I am...!

Age 39

currently reside in Waynesville, Ohio ( antique capitol of the midwest) . Started collecting tobacco crads with my brother when we were in high school. Love baseball history, and sports antiques. Also restore Pontiac Fiero Gt's and build kit cars out of them.

I collect 19th century Old Judge cards, T206 cards, T212 cards,E90-1, and anything pre-1940 that I think looks cool. I also collect anything Pittsburgh baseball related from 1880 to 1930....

hope to see some of you guys in Cleveland this summer

Dave Hornish-45 years on Planet Earth. Long Island born and bred. Married with two kids, 13 (son) and 11 (daughter). I brought this up in a long lost thread but I work in NYC as an average (loss) adjuster and spend my work days dealing with damages to ocean going ships and some tugs and barges.

Re-entered the hobby in January 1981 thanks to the first issue of Baseball Cards Magazine. Started off with 81 Fleers, 51 Red Backs and 52 Topps Dodgers (Boys of Summer is possibly my favorite book of all time). For three years I did 95% of the research for Current Card Prices magazine. Bought a lot of contemporary Topps/Fleer/Donruss in the 80's (cornered the market on Wade Boggs rookies) and in 1989 I became a weekend warrior with a buddy of mine. Did that for three years and had some fun and made a few bucks. We split the inventory and that became the foundation of my 67-80 Topps sets. Finished those off and started on the Topps inserts and test issues. Joined OBC about 16 years ago in the middle of all this.

I've always been interested in researching the cards and sets and have some articles up on oldbaseball.com. I had a grand total of maybe 5 tobacco cards in my collection until recently but had been toying with going pre-war for a while an and am now collecting Brooklyn Superbas/Robins/Dodgers team sets in a bunch of issues. I might piece together a T card type run and possibly E type cards as well. Really enjoying this board. Other big obsession is music; punk, or otherwise but mostly what might be called "Americana" these days. Need to win Mega Millions to put a proper collection togetther........Big time Mets fan.

Dave

57 years old and live in Arkansas. Folks used to swear I was a dead ringer for Chevy Chase when I was younger, now I think I look more like Shrek.
Married for 36 years next month. 2 daughters, one married with 2 kids, the other, the free spirit, just got her Master's degree and is experiencing the "real" life of work.
Chief Public Defender, at least for a little while longer. Semi-retirement is beckoning.
Prewar cards period. Caramels, caramels and more caramels, although I have started collecting sets now from the 30's and upgrading my tobacco sets.
"My name is Bob and I am a set collector." Sounds like an AA chant...
